Remember this well - when we played Liverpool the commentator referred to Jan Molby as “slimline Molby” (after his stint inside) - he still looked about 20 stone.
I can remember the Liverpool game, I had just moved into my house, my dad and brother came round to give me a hand with wallpapering the front room. We all sat down to watch the match, 1 down and my dad got back to work, 2 down prompted my brother to restart. The third goal got me off my arse, then we scored I sat down to watch, followed by my brother when the second went in. When we equalised my dad downed tools and that was it for the evening.
I was 11 and had no clue it was on. Tv channel got turned over and there it was. I was mesmerised and so happy we eventually won. So good. So exciting.
I think the Guardian piece said Shirtliff got Player of the Tournament, but what was Mickey Bennett's trophy? Man of the Match for the final, or Golden Boot maybe?
