Is This Season Basically Over? If So, What Needs Doing?

  • I don't think the season will be considered 'over' until JJ reaches his contractual points requirement to guarantee he's here next season.

I have no idea what that number is, but I wouldn't think we're there yet.
  • Identify signings early and sign them early not 5 games deep where we’re already 18th with a minus 4 goal difference, get them training with the squad and playing friendlies for a couple of months.

Get rid of all players over 33.

Get two players in for each position, especially up front.

Have two formations worked on not just 1 (JJ) or 38 (NA).  And stick with those two and base the squad around those two.

Don’t rely heavily on loans, by all means use the market but don’t make 5 of our best 11 players that will head back end of the season.
  • Can’t see believe how many people keep saying we are only 6 points above the relegation zone blah blah , no matter how poor or inconsistent we have been there absolutely no chance one of AFC Wimbledon , Doncaster , Crewe or Gillingham could finish above us I’m my opinion

2 formations need to be picked, one preferred and one we can play in comfortably if JJ wants to change it up.

EVERY player at the club now needs to be assessed as to if they fit in to both, either or none of the formations picked and tactics employed.

Those in the none camp go in the summer, regardless of how young/old they are or how long is on their contracts, pay off those that no-one will buy, sell the ones you can.

Those in the either/or camp either leave if contracts have expired, or get sold if the price is right, unless they are shit hot, they can stay.

Those in the both camp, as long as they are deemed good enough to get out of this league, get to stay, younger ones offered new, longer contracts to do so.

Scouting is done, any player that's missed more than 40% of the last 2 seasons combined is disregarded immediately. Priority is placed on players 27 and younger, ideally with roots in the South East, or at least a decent period of their careers played away from "home". No use signing a Yorkshire lad who's career spans the likes of Sheffield, Leeds, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Hull, And he's never lived down South before.

Loanees are only signed if there's no chance in hell of us signing a player of that calibre otherwise, but they must be outstanding (Like Cullen and Bielik) if they only improve us slightly, play one of our youth instead. No old men on loan, it's pointless.

Have 2 players for EVERY position, that are competition to eachother
There aren't going to be many players who can't play in a single position out of 2 formations. If they can't then what are they doing as a professional footballer?

But i do agree with your overall point, especially the ages and their fitness records.

I'd argue that there are a couple of players who can't play in either a 352 that we currently employ or a 442 diamond if that was the secondary formation. Where would Kirk have fit in that for example? Or Millar if we had him last season? Both can't play fullback or in a narrow 4 man midfield.

To be fair Millar played in 4 different positions in his first 3 halves for us.  3 of which were in those formations.

And he looked completely lost doing so, same as when we played Kirk in central midfield earlier on this season
  • The season over ? 19 games still to be played surely ? 57 points still to play for … season not over

You realise other teams can score points too right
