The second goal was up the other end and, whilst it was a very good delivery, goalkeepers should be coming for balls into their 6 yard box. I hope that Maynard-Brewer shows some form next season and takes the shirt Clare: 5.5 - gave away a cheap free kick (a recurring feature of this side) and lost his man for the second goal but was otherwise the least incompetent of the three central defenders who started Pearce: 4 - did alright in the first half but Charles had him on toast in the second. The ref also warned him about a couple of fouls in the first half before he picked up a yellow in the second half, so that might also have taken a slight edge off Matthews: 6 - no major cock ups but little contribution going forward Gilbey: 4 - pretty much invisible, save for one decent effort in the second half which Santos deflected over. Needs to come out of the side Morgan: 6.5 - erratic and nearly presented them with a third goal when caught in possession on the edge of his own box. He did, however, try hard to get us going and at least looks like a footballer for some of the time DJ: 6 - not bad but unable to build on Saturday’s excellent performance Burstow: 4.5 - tried his very best but, predictably, didn’t get a sniff against Bolton’s big, strong defenders, although the service was crap Washington: 5 - we tried to hit balls over the top for him but they were usually over hit and ran harmlessly off or through to their goalie Lavelle: 6 - good to see him back. Looked assured, which wasn’t difficult given the shambles which preceded his introduction from the bench Aneke: 7 - made an immediate difference by winning an aerial duel, something I can’t remember our forwards doing in the first hour. A fine header for the goal and generally gave Bolton’s defenders something to think about Referee: 5 - erratic at times. On the plus side, he did at least clamp down on time wasting from Bolton’s irritating little goalie Opposition: 5 - they were below par but well organised, pressed well in the first half and their defenders were competent and didn’t offer up any gifts.
