These comments making me miss how exciting it used to be watching a the ball fall to a centre-back anywhere within 40 yards and genuinely be expecting him to have a pop and test the keeper...what a player Talal was!
We haven't had many genuine mentalists play for Charlton but El Karkouri was close to top of the tree as far as CAFC nutters go (or perhaps that should be furthest out of the tree).
Absolute lunatic, I loved him. He was like a very up-market Llera. If the team were doing well he was a silky, ball-playing murder bus. If the team were doing badly he was a clearance shanking, needless fouling cinder block. There was absolutely no inbetween.
Some great names from the past on here but some of the selections must be well past it by now. Having played vets football at the age of 40, the younger 35 year olds had a big advantage in terms of pace and fitness. So if it’s a serious attempt at wining a masters tournament I wouldn’t recommend picking anyone forty plus 😉. Having said that Sir Stanley Matthews played until he was 50!
