Saw the oncologist this morning. It's pretty much as expected. The good news is that the cancer cells have responded to the chemo, and so I will have the 8th cycle, which is 2 doses over the next 2 weeks.
After that, I will have an immunerotheraphy infusion every 4 weeks, which I told is less invasive. In addition, I will have a scan quarterly and see the oncologist 6 weekly. We have to be realistic in that the cancer is likely to grow. This is likely to mean chemo in the future, maybe even in 6 months' time, but not before. I did ask about life expectancy, and he did say it is impossible to say as everyone is different. However, he did say typically, with people with my symptoms, it could be 1-2 years. I'm not totally surprised but had hoped he may have said longer.

You mention having to be realistic and it reminded me of when I was doing health psychology a while back. There were studies looking at various different illnesses to find factors that increased length of life. A key one was to have an ‘unrealistic expectations’ (they called the factor unrealistic optimism). One such person was a friend of mine with cancer that had spread. She was told she would live 6 months. That was 10 years ago.
Quick update from me, finished my Radiotherapy couple of weeks ago, had update with my Consultant, PSA cancer level has now reduced from 39 this time last year to 0.04, everything seemingly moving in the right direction, hoping it continues that way, wish everyone the best of health.

Good evening. I just wanted to let you all know, I'm now back home after completing my 6th (& hopefully) final session of chemotherapy. I am, as usual, completely exhausted and wearing the chemo pump that continues to dispense chemo until Friday. Wherever I go it goes, then on Friday District nurses will take the empty dispenser out of my arm. The next dates for me are 20th Dec for a CT scan, 30th Dec for an MRI scan, and then the results in front of my Oncologist on 16th January, and yes I'm apprehensive about the outcome already! Good early morning to you all. I have a small update for you. Today is an important day for me, I'm just getting ready to go to hospital for an MRI scan. My chemo sessions were halted last week, and today the scan will determine if the tumour has shrunk, or better still gone!! I won't know the results until 16th January, but I can only hope today's scans show good news. Chemo sessions will restart on 21st January, but only if required!! I feel good within myself, I'm not in any pain, at all!! I have a rampant appetite, and I'm not as tired as I used to feel.....hoping for an early Xmas present. Take care all xx Malc

Just to let you know Red she unfortunately lost her battle and passed away on Sunday taken far to soon just 32 years old. I appreciated your kind message so just thought I'd let you know how things are....best wishes to you hope all's as well as can be.
