Very sorry to hear this John. You're right to keep positive and that things can also change too, so keep that up if you can, difficult though it will be at times I'm sure.
Just a brief update, my Just Giving Page for Bowel Cancer had a target of £150.00.
I'm so pleased, and humbled, to tell you all that we currently stand at £555.00 or 370% of the target. If we can help save just one person's life and a family from grief then we can be proud, all of us.

Awful news John and my thoughts go to you and all of those close that will be troubled by the news.
My brother-in-law, got his diagnosis of prostate cancer last year. Such is the NHS that he finally got his surgery a few months ago. Anyway the good news is that although they said he was stage 4 prior to treatment, they are now giving really positive news. He's only 55 and is a gym bunny who eats right (not that cancer chooses on meritocracy) but the point I'm trying to make is sometimes life deals a shit deck of cards.
To say that he was in an awful state in the autumn, is an understatement. The life changing effect of surgery (if required) is a tough ask on any man, so age and the impact on the enjoyable things life offers, we're a very bitter pull for him to swallow, such was that he put off surgery whilst he deliberated. Eventually it hit home that it was either treatment or no future at all. He's almost out the other side now and I can genuinely say that he is living again.
There will be days when it is too much, but lean on those that can share your tough times.
Here is always a good place for a listening ear. Many will understand only too well what you are dealing with.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Today I hit my 69th birthday, but far, far more importantly than that....we've raised £600 (or 400% of the £150 target) for Bowel Cancer UK. This has surpassed my wildest expectations and YOU have all contributed to saving someone's life, and, that person's family from grief!! This IS the best birthday present I have ever had in my 69 yrs. The generosity of Charlton fans knows no bounds! Hi all, had a more in depth bone scan last week and spoke to my Consultant yesterday, he said that I do not have Bone Cancer and that the original scan showed a dark shadow which they thought/assumed was cancer, Great news, although i still have Prostate Cancer, and they are now telling me that if the Medication I am currently taking, which has taken my PSA level, which should be in the range of 0 to 4, it was 39, down to 3.9. In 6 months I will be having Radiotherapy for 6 weeks, 5 days a week, and potentially, could be Cancer Free at some time in the future, how quickly things can change, still just taking 1 day at a time though, thanks for all your support.

That’s brilliant news. Longevity with prostate cancer is very good so you must feel like you’ve won the lottery. So pleased for you.

Great news mate!! The radiotherapy is an easier treatment than chemo. I had it for 5 weeks, 5 days a week. Major side-effect is fatigue, but other than that its not too bad. Good luck!!
Great news Redjohn! In some ways you must feel like you’ve hit a bit of a jackpot. The cancer has not metastasized like they had previously told you. Keep smiling.
RedJohn I am a prostate cancer survivor. Two points: 1. Many of my cancer "colleagues", who I struck up a friendship with during my many weeks of Radiotheraphy, had a higher PSA score than 39. I hope that is a small comfort for you. 2. (and I am seeking ShootersHillGeru for an opinion here). I would ask your consultant for your Gleason Score and ask him/her to interpret that score for you. The Gleason score is assessed by the number of cancerous pieces of your prostate following your biopsy and the condition of your "clean" pieces from the same biopsy. I understand that the score is considered to be more accurate of your true condition than the PSA score. ShootersHillGaru, views please.
