JFC was happy for a pic in car park with petrol head son today , nice fella George Dobson is a lovely kid and more than happy doing pics he won the MOTM in the lounge today Connor Washington won it the other week and surprisingly was a bit moody/off and couldn’t get out of there quick enough
I would sign autographs if I was famous; in fact, I have had some experience nevertheless. At Chris Powell's last match at The Valley, I was in the lounge area (is that what it's called?) with a couple of colleagues after the match. When I left, there was a small group of autograph hunters waiting outside, clutching programmes and pens. Not wanting to disappoint, I went up to them and signed a couple of programmes. As I walked away, I heard one kid say, 'Who's he?' to his dad.
I actually don’t understand why we are naming him in the squad. Would much rather Kanu was named.
I completely agree. We got him back when we had injuries. I’d rather give Kanu minutes off the bench or in the match day squad experience. Perhaps we don’t wanna ruin our relationship with Chelsea with what’s gone on with John and Spurs.
Burstow should not be in the squad again … he is not part of our future, so there is no point.

Washington storms off the pitch win or lose so maybe he's just a stroppy bloke

Use the kids.
Agree - it made some sense at the time, but now we have nothing to play for, it doesn't make much sense playing him.
He’s a kid, thrown into football from a young age, with people fawning over him and giving him what he wants. He doesn’t have a clue what it’s like to be a real supporter, most of these young lads don’t. We look at the world of football from a totally different perspective than they do. Sometimes you come across players that ‘get it’. Unfortunately with the hundreds of academies across the country now, that’s slowly disappearing.
Generally I don’t disagree but it wasn’t so long ago Burstow was posting a picture of him as a kid at The Valley. He ‘got it’ when it suited him and he was trying to make an impression.
Yeah a picture as a kid ain’t proof. I look at Pickford going Sunderland away as a 22 year old for example. Rob Elliott was at countless away games with us.
Isn’t proof of what? All I meant was that Burstow was happy to display that previously, now seemingly above that.

Woah calm. I’m just saying burstow in a Charlton kit isn’t proof he cares. Harry Kane was pictured in a arsenal kit.
Poor form. Should’ve taken the photo with your daughter. But he is an 18 year old kid with a few bob, who’s living the dream. Pretty sure we were all dickeads at 18
I was a dickhead but I think I'd have it in me to be nice to a kid
Geez, we haven’t lived the life of a professional footballer. It’s all relative
On the flip side, my cousin DMd him on insta saying ‘well played’ etc and he replied to him saying he appreciates his compliments. My cousins friend also met him in Subway at the petrol garage and he was extremely polite to my cousin and his mate again.
Sometimes you just don’t know what these players are going through, could be having a terrible time at home or any other reason for all we know
that said I agree other younger players that are ours should be getting in the squad over him now

Did his dad say, well, he's Captain Bob...take it you were in character.. @Captainbob
It’s disappointing and a shame for the young girl but I think this thread’s a bit OTT. How many times do you think he gets asked that every day? And does someone make a thread every time he does stop for a photo or sign an autograph?
To be fair I doubt he gets asked for his autograph too many times “every day”. How many people outside of Charlton fans even know he exists?
I’d struggle to recognise him, let alone anyone else.
When Gallagher was with us, me and a few mates were walking out from bartrams and he was leaving the ground he actually took 5 to have a chat and said enjoy the rest of the season he went back to Chelsea the next day.
Similar sort of age but still took the time to chat.

Lol. Reminds me of a story of a mate of mine who went on a corporate jolly to Wembley for a match. All sat in a restaurant with some Sky presenters talking about the game on a stage when one said he could see Darren Anderton in the crowd and they should get his views. Much to my friends surprise the chap walked over to him with a microphone. Being fairly compliant my friend gave his views and then spent the next 30 minutes with corporate Americans asking for his autograph much to the amusement of all his guests at his table!
I think slaughtering him for one incident is a bit much.
There might have been something personal going on and he really needed to get out of there. We’ve all had days where we can’t face people. We don’t know the circumstances, so I think a player needs at least one free pass.
If he did this repeatedly though, that would be a different matter.

Eh? I’m very calm and I agree, few players care too much and I actually think it’s a bit ridiculous fans expect any different. Doesn’t mean they should be above doing the odd bit of goodwill for fans mind.
Just watched (reluctantly)a documentary "the United way Cantona signing autographs after a match lauded as a" man of the people" .Burstow has done nothing yet and is in too much if a hurry for a photo.compare and contrast

All this slating of a young kid is a bit much for me. You only have to go on pretty much every post match thread after we lose to see there are plenty of fans out there wanting us to get rid of players who have been here for a long time because they are deemed to be not good enough. Heck we even have fans wanting JJ sacked after about half a season.
Loyalty is gone in football. But that works both ways. Players see nowadays that fans can turn in an instant, score a few goals and you are treated as a hero and then don't score in 5 games and fans state your not good enough and need replacing.
All kids his age pose for pics in their motors, it's what they do. The only difference is he just happens to be able to afford a pretty smart motor compared to a clapped out Renault Clio that most kids his age drive round in. So what if he wants to take a pic. I'd have done exactly the same back when I was his age if I could afford a brand new audi and so would every single one of my friends as well, it's crazy to criticise him for it. Do people genuinely think he should be rolling round in a fiat punto just in case someone accuses him of being a big time charlie.
Players should sign autographs, to me it is just a common courtesy, and especially when it involves kids. And as others have pointed out you hear of world class footballers who will stay and sign everything no matter how long it takes. But there could be a million and one reasons why he didn't on this occasion. Maybe he is just rude, or maybe he was running late, had a meeting to get to, could be a whole host of reasons.

i'm sure there's a million and one reasons Tom Cruise, Christiano Ronaldo could make for not taking a few seconds out of their day too. Why do they always manage to find time in their MUCH busier schedules... he wasn't in the bog of some nightclub, he was walking out of the ground, where he did the square root of fuck all for his money that day - he didn't even get on the pitch. Sign a fucking autograph, pose in a picture with a young fan, get the fuck over yourself mate,

Not having that really, he's hardly Messi. He's an 18 year old kid pretty much unknown outside of Charlton, in fact i doubt some Charlton fans would even recognise him.
The only possible defence i can give is that sometimes stopping for 1 autograph can then mean stopping for 10 autographs if other fans also then go over and want the same. But even that's not really a defence is it, because these players should realise that the smallest gesture and a minute out of your day can mean the world to a fan.

I agree. I’m not going to pile on to the fella because he blanked the little girl. We don’t know what his thought process was at that time. In saying that, he should be nowhere near the team at the moment and if I was jacko, I’d be sending him back to Chelsea before the end of the season.
Someone mentioned above that Washington was moody. I think he’s just a bit shy tbh. We played golf in front of him, innis and matthews recently. Innis was a gent, but matthews and Washington were clearly quiet blokes.
As pointed out earlier I'd rather give the likes of Kanu and Leaburn minutes than him right now.
Kanu is injured and despite his recent hat trick i honestly don't think Leaburn is anywhere near ready for the first team yet. Sometimes that can do a kid more harm than good.
I do agree with your point though, no point playing Burstow. I'd 100% give Kanu minutes when he's back from injury.

I agree re just randomly throwing youngsters in. I cringe when I see people suggesting it, we need to have a proper plan for the development of our talented youngsters.

No cause it’s true it’s poor form
What?
You mutton!!
That makes even less sense than your previous post.
