Bloody hell - it’s been a horrendous few months for Australian cricket. Another great player gone and another player who enjoyed huge popularity in England.
Always looked like Flintoff when batting, like a grown up in kids pads with a junior bat
Saw him play for Kent a few times and the man could seriously clonk a cricket ball. Inspirationally good fielder as well who didn't let standards drop when probably playing below himself
Born in Birmingham and was adopted with whom he then moved to Oz. Shame he never played for us as he was a superb player, particularly in limited overs. RIP
Australian Cricket hit with more terrible news with the death of Andrew 'Roy' Symonds in a car accident.
Definitely was a Maverick Cricketer but a well loved guy who broke some rules but was admired after listening to his peer group who played with him all over the world including Kent, India and in the Aussie team.
It brought back sad memories of 24 year old Ben Hollioake who died in his Porsche while driving in Perth; Twenty years ago.

Bloody hell, Ben H was 20 years ago now?! christ that feels like a lot less than that.
Simmo was a great player. Came across as a bit of a pantomime villain at times but a great all rounder. RIP.

If you ever met him you’d know he was a proper old school Aussie bush man. Was never in a million years going to play for England.
Got to know Andrew Symonds very well during the 11 years I worked for KCCC and have a good number of stories about him, many of which I couldn’t repeat here. What I would say is that several of his best innings for Kent were after he had had a good night out! The only person who could keep him in check was his then wife Brooke, who was just half his size. A fierce competitor at all times, Kent were a much better side with him in their starting eleven. He always seemed to get the best out of his team mates. He will be sadly missed. RIP my friend.
