A good opening comment too. Somewhere there's a parallel universe where Dave Smith was a tone deaf milkman with no interest in electronics. How many songs would sound completely different without his influence and how many may never have been written. As well as being the driving force behind midi there's also the Sequential Circuits range of synthesizers. I did a quick bit of googling this morning to put together a list of artists who used his synths, before I got bored and decided that it might be a simpler task to list this that don't. Here's a small sample of SC users:
