Japan shot saved by the keeper.
This is the same distance as that goal they got last World Cup where it didn't go out for a goal kick somehow

Condolences to anyone that got Tunisia in their work sweepstake
I'm in one where the side that concedes the most goals in the group stage wins £40....unfortunately I haven't got Tunisia....I have Belgium.

Tunisia were woeful, but Japan were impressive. It’s very enjoyable to watch them even as a neutral. They work towards everything as a team, and somehow play very freely while being organised and tight.

Scotland to lose 2-0 to Brazil, the 2nd goal in the 96th minute meaning they go out on goal difference...
Brazil bring on Patrick Kluivert late on who scores the second ......
    Can you explain that bit?
Euro ‘96. England smashed the Dutch 4-1, Kluivert got the 1 right at the death and it put Scotland out.
Ok thanks for that, that's a bit too far back for me to remember.
It’s worth a watch. I never thought I’d see England hand out such a hammering to a top team. Then, of course, we did the Germans 5-1 away which was equally impressive.

I prefer goal difference as the main tiebreaker than head to head.

Fear there are gonna be a few dead runners in game three where the top place is already determined due to the head to head result
Ludicrous format for this WC - far too many teams and qualifying three teams from a group of four kills the level of competition.

Let’s go to 64 teams and top two only qualify from the group.

To be honest I'd prefer this or going back to 32.
  • Tunisia sailed through qualifying - doesn't say much for the level they faced.

Qualified without even conceding a goal. Then again the teams in their group were (with current rankings in brackets):

    Equatorial Guinea (105), Namibia (121), Malawi (129), Liberia (140) and........Sao Tome and Principe (195).

For context all of those are ranked worse than Luxembourg.

They are all just making sure Scotland get through in third aren’t they.

Can always expand it to 64 next tournament, if the Jocks don't make it this time round.

Scots need to be careful. I hear FIFA are considering membership applications from Sark, Sealand and The Goodwin Sands. Qualification not guaranteed next time round...

Might still be a bit hard for the to qualify again. FIFA should set up a knock out competition for all its recognised 211 ‘Nations’ bringing the top ones in at the 3rd round like the FA Cup.

This could be a Charlton-Southampton first half scoreline.

To be fair the Saudi's are offering more attacking threat than we did in most games last season.

Why do so many of these international players smash the ball so far over the bar when they shoot from any kind of distance. Its pathetic how bad they are.

From an England perspective, don’t we want Spain to win this?

Keeps them away from us for longer I’d assume.

Yeah live update has Spain now in the other half of the draw, and if we win our RO32 game, we'll face Mexico or Saudi Arabia
Its Portugal we just need out of the way next

Spain look decent, but the way they’re gushing over them is a bit over the top.
I think the co-commentator has had to change his pants a couple of times already.

Why not do away with qualifying and make it a knockout of 222 teams?  2 preliminary games of the worst four teams, leaving 220. 92 games in the first round to produce 92 winners to join the 36 seeded teams in a second round of 64 games, and so on. Don’t need a host country until the eighth-finals, fifteen games in two weeks. No 3/4 place final because who cares about 3rd place?  I’m sure Eusebio treasured his medal from 1966.

Having a moan... why is Wayne Rooney all over the BBC like a rash at the moment ?
He is a bit shit, and I've heard he prefers an older woman. Although I don't think that is relevant.
I would have thought Jamie Vardy would get some help as he is a few quid short at the moment after recent decisions didn't go his way.

Similar to Qatar, will always enjoy watching the Saudis throw money at the sport and still get embarrassed on a global stage.
