Really?!, just had a look... Last 16 we will play Mexico in Mexico. Quarterfinal will be Brazil, semi final will be Argentina and then we have Germany in the final 60 years on from 1966.

I would guess we could probably be one of the few countries that could host a 64 team competition. We have/will have the key ingredients in stadiums, public transport to get to those stadiums, sufficient accommodation in hotels, hostels, B&B, Airbnb and, in the summertime a lot of purpose built student accommodation sitting empty.

Take one example from row 50 of the table of the wikipedia article...

If the eight best teams come from groups: B, E, F, G, H, J, K, L then

1A v 3E (Mexico v Ecuador),
1B v 3J (Switzerland v Algeria),
1D v 3B (USA v Bosnia),
1E v 3F (Germany v Sweden),
1G v 3H (Egypt v Saudi Arabia),
1I v 3G (France v Iran),
1K v 3L (Portugal v Ghana),
1L v 3K (England v DR Congo)

DR Congo (3rd K) 25 times
Senegal (3rd I) 13 times
