Ooo thats very interesting - They did however spend a year together @ Bury (part of their last year in the Football League, when they came second in League Two)... So might just be happy for his mate to get a big move
”Eoghan was our captain and far and away our best player over the last 2 years. Definitely L1 standard at least, skilful for a CH, not your usual lower league Row Z defender. Maybe lacks a little pace but you've got a good player there. Gutted he's gone but we were never going to keep him.
Sometimes criticised for overplaying, but I put that down to being surrounded by players not at his level and trying to haul the team through games single handed.”
This looks a very promising signing. The team needs leaders and players who are prepared to take responsibility, rather than hiding or passing the buck.
I also like how this deal was done - quietly and with no fuss or speculation.
On what the Cork native can bring to his side, Charlton boss Garner commented: “Eoghan’s a player that I’ve admired for a long time and it was nice that when I came in he also featured high on the club’s recruitment list.
“In possession he’s fantastic, he’s very intelligent, comfortable receiving the ball, very brave, which is a big quality, and he has a fantastic range of pass. In addition to that, he’s also a great defender."

More signings like this and that 20/1 price to win the league don’t seem so bad at all 😉 People might think I’m going over-board but I’ve always been an optimistic even with what us fans have been through the last year or so.!

2 very positive comments about O'Connell from a pair of Rochdale fans have given me more optimism. They really rave about him
smacks me as a player who will do a wonder for Lavelle
... clearly comfortable on the ball. A League 2 John Stones.
Lacks pace ... and those threaded through balls that he seems to love will get intercepted more at this level.
Fingers crossed that he does us proud.
@mendonca a bit of both, the way it should be
first league game on 30th . More players like this one please. Ever the optimist…
