McGrandles? Good luck with the song....
Oh that's a teaser. I'm thinking the opening  verse for Bony M's 'Rasputin'.

    🎵
You can keep your pie & mash,
    Your jellied eels & sandals,
You can stick them where the sun don't shine,
    We've got Conor McGrandles
    🎵

It does work, but only if the last two lines are sung at a faster tempo. Could do with a food stuff to replace sandals too 🤔
    Bagels!

As vocal critics of the previous three signings, would be interested to hear your thoughts on this bloke. More in line with expectations or not yet?
I wasn't a vocal critic - I said I dont know anything about them and doubt anyone else does. And whilst I wished them well - I didnt know if league 2 players would do it or not.

I also dont know much about this guy. On paper he could be ok - truth is I haven't a clue.
Ok maybe I overstated it a bit but did you at least get a bollock tingle this time? Or are we still at the Ann Widdicombe stage?

I wasn't critical of the signings at all!  I said and I repeat for the umpteenth time, I remain UNCONVINCED things have changed massively.

I even said after the first three signings it looked like we may have learnt from last season, but I still remain UNCONVINCED that Garner + these four + the current squad + the current structure behind the scenes will deliver a necessary play off position for me to say the season has been enough of an improvement for a club of our size and stature.

I'm liking their age, the length of contract and the way the signings have happened in relative secret.

BUT we need a lot more quality to compete for 46 games in this season.   Feeling more positive than 10 days ago, but I may have mentioned it but I'm not yet convinced......

He'd say we need two strikers
I'd say we need a left back a left sided centre back and a goal scoring midfielder more!

Another one who's been a skipper. Garner's following my advice to build a team of 11 captains!

    🤪
Yes its good to have players with a 'captains spirit' But on the other hand ego's can distract from the team perspective. Remember "too many chiefs but not enough Indians" I hope i am wrong on this second point

    @Boom @Off_it Jnr

whats the low down with this one? Trust your opinions
I've seen him play a few times - not against us.

Two years ago he looked really good. Seemed to be everywhere in the middle of the park and was getting up and down, lots of great tackles, looking to play forward and make runs - proper box to box but with a bit of a streaky ungainly look about him (and I don't just mean his boat!)

Last year, as has been said, he was forced to play a deeper role due to injuries within the squad and I don't think it was his natural position, but still did a decent enough job back there by most accounts.

Not the sort of signing that had me immediately reaching for the Kleenex if I'm totally honest, but he always seemed pretty decent whenever I saw him. So overall am pretty positive about him.

Played really well against us at The Valley last season. Our most exciting signing yet for me.
He was the player who turned Gilbey inside out and got Gilbey the first of his two yellows. He also got well clattered by Stockley a few times making brave defensive headers in the goal mouth.
Might win balls but nothing like a Dobson and can’t see him as a replacement for Dobson.

    'oooooooh

It's a McGrandle team to see

I was so intent on judging Cafc players the only Lincoln player that I really noticed was the Kirk look alike who was left footed and played on the right. My main memories from that game was the madness of Gilbey and that we had 5 chances but unfortunately Washington missed 4 all in the 2nd half and Stockley missed one in the 1st half.

Was Conor McGrandles box to box that day or the defensive midfielder ?

Personally I thought JJ set the team up well in the 2nd half as with 10 men we created so many chances but Conor just couldn't hit the back of the net.

I don't often focus too much on opposition players, what part of his game stood out to you?

The stand out player was Gilbey for all the wrong reasons in the Lincoln home game.
I quit being in his fan club before he finished his walk of shame.
I could only rave about Alex G in that Ipswich home game for so long before accepting he needed to replicate that type of performance.

I thought he combined quality with energy and was in and around most of the good things they did. I do recall saying at the time he would be a good player for us to target.

So if he was in and around most of the good things they did I assume he played the box to box role ?

That question is to anyone that was at that match at the valley as both Scoham and myself didn't notice him ?

I noticed Fraser at MK Dons in that match at the valley when he was good on the ball and young *Baah for Rochdale as I knew about crazy Kwadwo since he was 15 and was told by his Ex Coach he had two good feet and was a strong kid for his age ( I should've  told the Cafc coaches !)

    * At Watford now and could well shine in the Championship as long as the broken ankle he received in Training last season has 100% healed.

I recall liking him and commenting on it immediately after. I can't give the same analysis I could have done at the time.

Although as some people have pointed out, he was asked to do a job last season for Lincoln as stand in for their long term injured DM.
It's evidently not his best position, as Lincoln fans and reporter has said.

I'd hope that McGrandles has been brought in to play his specialist box to box role.
The fact that he's capable perhaps of stepping in if Dobson is absent, is a side benefit.

Curbs will be pleased though. He likes players that can play more than one position or adapt during a game.

I'm a living breathing paradox mate. Sometimes the more I've had to drink and the later it is in the day the more sensible I become. As Jules Winnfield might say, I can sometimes have a "moment of clarity".

Only sometimes though and they're few and far between. Just embrace it when it happens. :-)

So Garner has told him he will be playing an attacking role. Does that mean two attacking midfielders (with Fraser the other) and Dobson behind?

It depends what shape/formation we end up playing. There's JFC to put into contention too depending on his fitness.

If it's 4231 or 352, the central midfield is still that triangle of 3.

I wonder if he might see JFC as Dobson's competition given Jake likes to drop deep to receive the ball.

JFC as a wing back from time to time?  Which means one left back only to be signed?

I think so. Although more to do with CBT than JFC.

Hopefully not, as a forum we read far too much into one performance against Fulham a few years ago. I want pace and energy at left back, not a relatively slow midfielder because he has a decent left foot and once got an assist while playing there.

Keeping JFC as a CM gives us depth in that position. I hope Garner has a good look at Clayden who perhaps isn’t good enough going forward to be a winger but has genuine pace that could make him a decent option as second choice left back. Pace is very effective, just look at the way Doughty stepped up from his non-league loan and CBT from L2 Tranmere.

I've never been JFC's biggest fan but I think he will thrive under Garner.
