This kid is not a professional Hockey player, he just plays goaltender for the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He was signed to the Edmonton Oilers as emergency cover after one of their two regular goalies went down ill at short notice. If you don’t follow Ice Hockey, the Oilers are a major team (the obsession of this city) and in Connor McDavid have the best player in the league. Many people feel they have a real shot at winning at least one Stanley Cup in the next few years. Apparently, it was McDavid’s idea to let him play. So this is a bit like someone from the University of Manchester’s football team being called up the night before a Premier League match to sit on the bench for Man City, and then being sent on by Pep Guardiola to play the last few minutes at the request of Erling Haaland.
The kid is even wearing his UofA Golden Bears pads and helmet.
