If this ever becomes the market share of Sky users that may give them an opportunity to ditch the expensive satellite operation and use our infrastructure to deliver their content. If this ever happens Sky is probably over for me as our mbps won't really be good enough in rural Suffolk !!

My wife was sold on the idea of Sky Glass by some friends, I had reservations but she was adamant it would be better and I know when I am beaten.
She is now asking if we can have satellite Sky back. Not having the same old programme listings menu and not being able to find stuff and no recording is her main problem. The advantage of greater choice wanes when you can call up a programme in six different ways and find there are six different ways of not being able to find a programme. At least under the old Sky system you only saw programmes highlighted that you could access with the right package. Now you have to find out what platform is transmitting the programme if you didn't make a note. Took me ages to find where I could get Welcome to Wrexham as a search only works if you already have the right app.
We have BT Broadband and I wanted BT Sport added. Was amazed to find after purchasing from BT that SkyGlass can't upload BT Sport. I had to add a Firestick and add my BT Sport subscription through that.
Im actually surprised by how many people here have Sky, perhaps its a reflection of the demographic commenting but most people I know dropped off Sky years ago. We personally haven't had it for years now and don't miss it at all. We have Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Netflix, and with those 3 you're covered with a ton content for a lot cheaper than Sky. Tbh these days I don't watch a lot of 'normal' TV, and spend most of my TV watching on YouTube.
It's really only sports where Sky has any appeal, but with watching Charlton and Welling every season I don't really get the urge to watch more football on telly, apart from England games. I subscribe to NFL game pass so Im covered there too, with the bonus of watching the previous days games at more convenient times with no adverts.

It’s not hard to use. My mums 90 and she coped in a couple of days. Q is far superior in every respect.

I was thinking of upgrading from BT copper broadband to BT fibre - where the smart hub is standard.
In a stroke of luck my line developed a fault just as my contract was ending. BT sent me their smart hub to try and cure the problem. In the event it was nothing to do with the hub, but I did get to try it out. The BT engineer on site failed to get it running and I later contacted BT to ask if there was a fix. They sent me a possible fix - by re configuring the channels on the hub. I carried this out to the letter and still found the set up to be unstable. I eventually got to speak to an experienced engineer in the BT test centre who confirmed it just don't work.
As I say my contract was up anyway so I ordered my fibre circuit from Sky. Obviously Sky Q works well with the Sky router supplied.
It's worth looking at upgrading from copper to a basic fibre circuit whoever you're with - as it tends to be a bit cheaper - and much, much better.

speaking of why does anyone know how to record from Sky box to DVD? I have plugged in my new DVD record/player and it is not det up yet as it is looking for channels (analogue) or DB or something that doesn't exist
Sky copy protect their channels and while this was fairly easy to get round with Sky+, Sky Q involves buying specialist equipment and the results are not great. I would advise anyone wishing to save matches to DVD to stick with Sky or Sky+.

I have had Sky Glass for around 6 months.Initially it was a disaster,but after a few teething problems,(programmes kept stalling at peak times)and no recording facility,I am now happy with the product.I like that if a good series comes on(I.E.Peaky blinders)you can add the whole series to a watch list thereby not having to worry about remembering to record. any problems I had were sorted out,i.e.MY router was on the floor,no good should be at least 2 ft above ground level,also should be same distance away from telephone.All takes a little patience,but worth it.
I’ve got used to Glass months ago. Works well for us. I don’t miss the recording features of old Sky, everything seems to be repeated and is available on catchup and what isn’t I don’t miss. I can stream 4K in 3 locations around the house and don’t have signal dropout in stormy weather. Q used to annoy me as I rarely watched tv where the main box was located but couldn’t get 4K on the mini boxes which I have always thought was a bit poor from Sky. I’m not too keen on the telly that I bought from Sky, 43 inch, I’ll probably ditch it next year and buy something a bit better quality.

The fact that it doesn't record was a deal breaker for me.
and me. the rest is just a gimmick and depends on your internet connection.
The gimmick is that they’re positioning themselves as the option for bringing all the other apps together in one seamless experience. Because they no longer have the best content themselves outside of football. But they’re charging premium rates for it and not providing the best quality presentation. I’d sooner watch Netflix in 4K through the Xbox than have a mediocre TV I don’t want.
As for the recording thing - SkyQ allows you to keep things they no longer have the rights for. That’s why they’d never let you transfer it to an external memory card.
When the contract with Warner Bros. is done in a couple of years and all the HBO stuff disappears (and the last movies on Sky Cinema finally disappear) it’s going to be a major problem for Sky.

Devices with HDMI output have a protection on it with only devices correctly licensed (such as your tv) will be able to decode the source.
