Best save I have ever seen live..... was sitting right behind the bottom corner that header was going into and to this day I still dont know how he saved it.
Bloody hell, you must have been sitting next to me 🤣
I remember being literally stunned by it. It seemed physically impossible
Johnny Ostergaard , 1980 I think. A week after having been thumped 6-0 in the FA Cup at Wrexham , we were back there in the league. He scored a 25 yard cracker , the only thing he did in a Charlton shirt. We still lost 3-2
Has anyone mentioned Miguel Angel Llera’s 9-man goal vs Swindon?
Yes, as an example of the benchmark of something a bit too talked-about for this thread
Really want more stuff that a) isn't just 'x scored a goal' and b) is on video. That Dale Stephens pass is a good one, albeit from a relatively heralded (by us) player. Steve Brown is a club legend, so um no. The Sarr tackle/cross is again from too heralded a player and it's too well-remembered. I want obscurely incredible stuff. The Varney example is a good one actually
Matt Spring scoring a winner against Palace. Varney gets more credit for that than Spring does. Seem to remember him thumping it into the roof of the net
He came in from the left and Carl Leaburn made a clever run across the box which pulled a defender out of position…the goal opened up, but this was Millwall, and the usual effect on a player wearing a red shirt would be to stub his toe, turn his back on goal or collapse in a heap. However, Hendrie was on loan and not yet Charltonised and he hit the top corner with aplomb. So, a 1-0 win, as we made our way home Lord Lucan rode past on Shergar and said “about time too”.
It completely passed me by the Lawrie Madden played for Millwall for a short period of time after he left us and before he played over 200 games for Sheffield Wednesday. You can take the Madden out of Charlton but not the Charlton out of Madden - watch from 1.40 onwards to see what I mean:
Collector's item. 28 Dec 65 at Fratton Park, on a freezing evening. A young Billy Bonds passed back to even younger debutant goalie Les Surman, who meanwhile had run out to pick up the ball, but alas it rolled past him into the empty net. 18 seconds played. Bonzo went on to play an enormous number of games in a lengthy career, but, at least as far as Charlton were concerned, this was Les' one and only match.

For years as a teenager I sat front row, block d, north stand, seat 58.

"Chris who?" said the Evening Standard when the squad was picked for that game.

It was the best save I have ever seen live though.

Second half White scored two and Killer one and we nearly won it at the death.
He finished the season well and thought he'd do well the following season then we sold him to Bristol Rovers.
