Retro video games thread

Recently treated myself to an Nvidia Shield box, and have put various emulators on it relatively easily, all the way through to Dreamcast/ps1/GameCube and even some wii games. PSP is proving to be a surprising highlight.
So many ps1 games I enjoyed at the time now seem like pixelated messes! Spent hours as a 10 years on WWF Smackdown and TOCA Touring Cars - the graphics can’t have been this bad. But I’m enjoying reminiscing, and trying out some of the old games I never got round to trying at the time. Incredible to think how a small box can have so many consoles in it compared to the cumulative size of the originals0 -
I play a lot of games to this day, probably my age (30s). Still have my sega megadrive and if mates are round - streets of rage, altered beast, golden axe. And many of the most difficult games are on it (that's important to me with how games are now).
But my PS1 sits steady next to all my consoles. I play final fantasy games at least once a year like FF7.
Scary to think these are classed as retro games now.0 -
I occasionally dip in and out of Diablo 2/3 still. There's a decent sized community still playing both games. Diablo 4 lands in a couple of weeks though and having enjoyed playing the beta I expect a lot of my life will disappear playing that for the foreseeable.0

A splendid, memory-filled thread!
My brother & I grew up through many a computer, & console. The Spectrum 128k+2 was the first, followed by the C64, then NES, Master System, Mega Drive, SNES, PS1, PS2, N64, Game Cube, Dreamcast, etc, & a whole host of handhelds. Game Boy's (original, Colour, Advance), Atari Lynx, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, DS, PSP).
I dropped off for a bit, needing my spare cash to follow my musical dreams, whilst my brother continued on the gaming trail, & he has a phenomenal collection, going through to the present day consoles, & picking up more retro machines over the years, too.
I've had a PSP on hand for many years, mainly for a piece of music making software, called 'Beaterator', but plenty of other games & movies.
I also have had a PS1 over the years, which has been mainly used for Pro Evolution 2 (which I think is still one of the best feeling footy games ever made).
I have, however, built a collection of consoles, over the past year or so, due to my son getting into gaming (initially through the Switch).
I picked up an Xbox 360, & an Xbox One, for under £30, from FB Marketplace. Then an amazing score of a PS1, PS2 & PS3, all for £15, from a charity shop. I've built a collection of games on each, relatively cheaply, due to the likes of CEX & Cash Converters.
Handhelds are my main thing. With the above handhelds being augmented by the 3DS, 2DS, even more PSP's & a number of emulator consoles, such as several Anbernic models, & a few others.
Football games are definitely my favourite of types of games (though a special mention for EA Hockey on the Mega Drive).
Starting with: Matchday 1 & 2, Emlyn Hughes International Soccer, Kick-Off, Sensible Soccer, FIFA (which was a revelation,.when it first came out), & The I.S.S. Pro, & PES games.1 -
CM 98 for me, you could get into the database in DOS, put yourself in with score of 20 in every category. World beater.North Lower Neil said:Old Championship Manager/Football Manager games are my thing - much more simple than the current game so don't need to plough hours into training, tactics, media etc, can complete a season in an evening.
cm0102 and FM08 are the best for me.
There's even a website where they data update current players into the cm0102 format, it's great.1
