Southgate has been deliberating between Saka and Phil Foden for England’s opening game against Iran, with the Arsenal star hopeful of getting the nod.
The England manager is in line to start with a back four and use both Saka and Mason Mount in advanced positions. The pair sparked a brilliant turnaround as substitutes in England’s last warm-up game against Germany, with the Chelsea midfielder scoring.
9pm K.O. here in China. Not to late in the night. I usually go to bed before 10pm on weekdays but I'm going to watch this whole game tonight and hopefully England will win. 💪
I was just planning on taking the afternoon off and watching at home. It’s now turned in to taking the whole day off and going down my local to watch all 3 games.

Will be 9pm in Perth, WA too! Was going to head off to the local to watch it only to be told they're operating under their normal hours on a Monday so closing at 10pm. WTH! Gotta love sleepy old Perth.
Solid first XI (I wouldn't have Maquire though)....Rice and Bellingham have to start, the latter most certainly isn't a defensive midfielder. To be fair, we've so many options in those wide attacking areas, if whoever gets the nod isn't producing then there's plenty on the bench to come on.
Subs in this tournament will be key (as they were for the women's team in the Euro's)
Early team news indicates England's best right-winger is starting tomorrow.
For a minute there I thought you were suggesting Jacob Rees-Mogg would be selected!
Mogg would be an excellent choice if we needed an own goal specialist...
And if we lost he would be good in the post match interview. He would simply say we won and that goals scored against us in the first half didn’t count as we made substitutions after that so they were scored against a different team.

Amd insist that results under the previous manager don't count.

Then Bellingham, Rice and Mount deeper.
Back 4 - Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw.
It’s Iran FFS we don’t need 3 centre backs. A back 4 with Stones and Maguire was our strength at the Euros
Set my alarm for 6am so I can catch all the action. These events every couple of years always make me wish I was back home for them.
Sterling will 100% be picked over both Foden and Saka. That's why they're fighting over one spot.

I've gone for 3-0 also - Kane 2 and Grealish on as a late sub.
Dead heat rules will apply ;-)
