RIP John Cowen.  Not just a Little World Cup winner, but a goalkeeper in the winning team who kept a clean sheet in the Final, Semi-Final, and all three group games.  So a pretty conspicuous performance, especially when considering the Final opponents' keeper went on to play 757 times in the League in England and 119 times for his full, international side. That keeper?  Pat Jennings.

John Cowen, third from the left in the back row

England's World Cup winning captain was Chopper Harris, fifth from the left.

England retained the Little World Cup the following year, in the Netherlands.

Tommy Smith (Liverpool) to the left of Chopper Harris holding the ball and John Samuel(Arsenal) to the right of John Cowen. The guy next to Tommy Smith holding the ball is John Sissons of West Ham.
  • Sorry to hear this news. RIP.
  • Until I found out about John Cowen, I thought Nobby Stiles was England's only famous little World Cup winter.
