I've just discovered as well that there's only 5 hours of time difference between NZ and Texas. Well, 19 technically but in practice it's 5pm here and midday there. Really bizarre geography fact.

Only 1 hour between NZ and Hawaii??? Excuse me
  • The Darren Stevens clone is on
Should have called up our version for this one!
  • If and when Stokes opts to call it a day as captain in a few years time, it is comforting to know that we will have an heir apparent

    You referring to Darren Stevens?
Not exactly. It's the bloke who has captained through all age groups including England U19 and who doesn't appear to be frightened of responsibility given that he bats like an old hand.
  • I love the way that Brook rolls the sleeves of his long sleeve jumper up as if it's symbolic of the manner in which that he plays
  • Feels like the first time Root and Brook have had the opportunity for a meaningful partnership.

    Might be wrong tho.

And they have complemented each other in the sense that it is better sometimes to have the immovable object batting alongside the aggressor. Which is great because I think Root needs to keep the reverse sweep/switch hit in the locker for now at least.
  • Half century for Brook just before the lunch break
  • Given the start we made and the favourable bowling conditions, thanks to Brook (yet another 50) and Root, one has to say that, at 101-3 off 26 overs, this was our session.

  • Lunch 101-3

    Brook 51 (52)
    Root 23 (65)
  • Another ton for Brook, some proper strokes, exciting player!

150 up for Brook at better than a run a ball.

    257-3
  • 100 for Root

    315-3

Players are heading off due to rain pretty much immediately after that moment

    Fantastic partnership

    Brook 184 (169)
    Root 101 (182)

    And that was stumps

    315-3 from 65 overs

Six runs short of a 300 run partnership between Root and Brook.
  • Unreal Talent!!

  • Brooks. What an immense talent. Such a skilful player, he has it all.
  • Well well well I didn't expect that when I went to bed at 50 odd for 3. This side is something very very special.
  • Christ, there's been a murder. New series of Red Riding
  • Slowest test ton for Brook. Took 107 balls  Ridiculous talent
  • Was he this prolific in county cricket ?
  • Last season? Yes
  • There's not a lot more that can be said about Brook that hasn't been said already. The challenge will be him trying to balance his career as he will become THE most sought after player in all forms of the game.

Another word about Root. It's great to see him go back to playing as Root can. The glue. The one that wears the opposition bowlers down but who still has the ability to rotate. He doesn't need to play the way that the hitters do because he presents at different challenge to bowlers.

So, 550 or even 600 by tea tomorrow and we then put them in? Then we will see what this wicket has to offer and we won't have the pink ball under lights to aid us.

  • Mental that a bloke who I’ve always thought scores at a good rate for a test batsman (root) could be described as the blocker/grafter in this team.

And he ticks along at a really good rate anyway usually.
