Root is no longer captain and I would tell him he's got to bat at three rather than throw an inexperienced youngster in at three. With over 100 Test matches to his name it makes more sense than making Brook play there.
Warner, Khawaja, Cummins, Lyon, Green, Labuschagne, Lyon, Hazlewood, Green, Carey. 6 of his 10 wickets very much batsman and Cummins has also proved pretty hard to remove this series too.

the Times on Monday quoted Root as saying he'd go in at 3 .. I suspect the 'management' want to keep him at 4 so when he comes in (very) hopefully the ball is a bit tattered

And Tongue got Warner twice, Smith twice, Khawaja....
Anyway, hope it's the right call now it's confirmed!!

Oh I agree its harsh on Tongue. But Robinson's economy is 2.69 whereas Tongue is 3.60. They might just want the control especially as Wood will likely go for runs with the extra pace.

Good points...and bowlers need to be rested - particularly Anderson with Old Trafford looming - (although Aussie quickies probably put in more of a shift than usual so will be interesting who they rest). Is the batting line up stronger though with Brook being promoted to 3?
Weird how Broad has gone from batting 8 in the last test to batting 11 in the released lineup in this test. I get moving below Woakes and Ali, depending on the situation Wood could be above him but no way does Robinson move above him on recent form.

Brook at 3 sounds dubious. If part of the reason for having 5 bowlers PLUS Stokes is because he's knackered after that long spell at Lord's, then surely Stokes if he's going to be playing as a batsman should move up the order himself, not hide at 6. He's good enough to play at 3.

We are perhaps forgetting that before Bairstow's injury the clamour in the public and media was for Brook to come in as an opener. I think he even said in an interview he was okay with that. Obviously its different for someone desperate to get into a team compared to someone already established in the side. But its still some kind of proof that management view Brook as a top order option.

I think you are over thinking it. It's obvious why brook is going on at 3. He lost the game of scissor-paper-stone
Here's a question. Do the stumps light up on contact with them or when the bail is dislodged to break a contact. I'm guessing it's the first, in which case when the stumps light up is not necessarily the guide to when the wicket is broken, although I suspect it is.

The bails are powered by hidden low voltage batteries. They each contain a microprocessor that detects when contact between the bails and the stumps has been broken. The bails are illuminated within 1/1000th of a second. They can be vibrated, knocked, rained upon, but will only flash when both ends are completely dislodged from the stumps, The microprocessors then send a radio signal to the stumps which also light up.
Whoever decided the women should play the 4 point test match first should be shot.
For such an extreme sanction, a bit of explanation is surely necessary.
Because a seven game series could be decided in three with the points system, making four of no consequence. Now, it could be over in four wth three to play. Why not increase the chances of a competitive series finale by having the test last?

Robinson cleaned up the tail for his.
Tongue should be playing, IMHO.

Mistake ? .. as ever we will see .. hope Robinson gets a 15 wicket haul

Might lose a couple of sessions, but I really don't think it's that bad looking at the met office forecast.

Rain due about 10am
Edit - I agree shooting is an excessive sentence
Also wouldn't be surprised at Boland for Hazelwood.
