I see that Ben Stokes has had an injection in his injured left knee ahead of his stint at the IPL. He won't be bowling in the first few weeks, which is good news for his recovery, but there have to be questions, for both the short and long term, in using that to mask the actual issue. There have been times when Stokes in the last couple of years when he could hardly walk let alone bowl and I very much doubt that the issue will clear itself as a result of an injection. If he does play on and can't bowl in the Ashes that will give us massive issues so far as the balance of the side is concerned. As he is being paid in the region of £1m by the ECB to play for England and he does have a duty of care to his employers as well as for his own long term health.

It's sounding like a Charlton injury where we spend months avoiding an operation, only for all the injections and "managing the injury" attempts to fail.

Even though he did undertake not to bowl in the early weeks of the IPL, Stokes actually opened the bowling yesterday. His over went for 18 and he wasn't called upon to bowl again.
That’s the difference between me and Stokes I’m going in for a knee op arthroscopy in a couple of weeks to sort a torn meniscus and I’m doing it so I can play in our 2nd team division 8 , 40 over matches .
No IPL for me , I need to bowl my slow medium trundlers wicket to wicket although judging by the weekends pics of our clubhouse and ground I won’t be needed anytime soon
Oh dear oh dear that does not look good! Hope your recovery from the op and the recovery of the ground coincide with each other. One word of advice for you and Stokes from someone who has been there and who didn't listen to the experts. Don't rush it and listen to your body!

"Which end do you want to bowl from, Oohah, the Pavilion End or the Far End?"
South Loughton’s home ground , Roding Valley Rec , Roding River usually breaks it banks but particularly bad this year . Hoping the council will let us make a new clubhouse on stilts but talks have been ongoing for a while .
Bairstow has asked to take the gloves for Yorkshire if and when he is fit but Foakes isn't looking to be the one left out - in Surrey's current game against Lancashire he scored 76 in the first innings and 103 not out off 95 balls in the second.
I actually don't think this will even be a question. Bairstow hasn't really kept any meaningful amount for more than 4 years now. He's coming back off a serious injury which will affect keeping as much as anything. We will see when he comes back and how much cricket he plays ahead of the tests starting. I expect him to have played enough to bat in the ashes but whether he will have kept enough to prove hit fitness to keep in tests on very much in doubt.
I really can't see him playing Tests again, never gets enough of a run uninjured and may well secure to concentrate on doing as well as he can in the IPL before long.

He’s like the Aneke of the England test side. Undeniable ability, but can’t keep his body together enough to make a meaningful contribution.
I don't think he's that good a Test bowler anyway, as he can't keep his speeds up over 5 days. Once he drops down to the mid 80s he's hasn't got the seam/swing skills to compensate

This is how I see him. Mark Wood always seems to give 100% in trying to bowl as fast as he can and that's what makes him special. At times Archer just seems to go through the motions and bowls in the mid 80s. When he does this he offers little more than plenty of our other seamers. Perhaps it's his elbow that stops him bowling flat out. If that's the case I don't know where he goes from here.

iirc after the first test vs australia he was carrying the injury that has put him out for so long which is the reason behind the inconsistent speeds.
The first thing that struck me about that list was the reminder that Shane Warne is really dead. Still seems strange.
The next thing was I hate listening to KP’s whining voice.
This. I STILL cant get my head around it. I loved watching him play despite being the enemy and loved listening to him. It still doesnt feel real.
even when he was a player, he was one of the only aussies i could tolerate because he was *so good*. Was incredible listening to him about leg spin, iirc there's a clip of him mic'd up at an IPL game where he says exactly how and where he's going to bowl and why to brendan mccullum and it'll get him out, then runs up and bowls him with the exact delivery. An absolute master and a real loss.

For me he has to come in for a batsman.
