The Ashes could well be decided by the balance of the two sides. Green, a 23 year old, with his ability to bowl up to 90mph, gives the Aussies that. Stokes, at almost a decade older and a dodgy knee, almost certainly won't. Add to that they can perm any fit three from four other world class seamers and they have one of the best spinners around too whereas our front line spinner is out for the duration and I'm genuinely concerned that we won't even get the drawn series previously predicted.
Would you choose Green ahead of Stokes?
Absolutely, 100%, with fucking bells on. Silly question tbh
Why was it a stupid question?

has green ever paced an innings and seen a team over the line in an ashes test match like stoakes has?

Can green motivate and lift a team like stokes has?

Im in the green over stokes club but it wasn't a silly question
Ask this again in 2 months ;)
  • (If Stokes has a better personal Ashes than Green I will eat a zillion humble pies and meet Chizz in Makro's car park with a crown and sceptre to present to him)
  • I notice on BBC it states day 3 of 6
Is day 6 a reserve day or has there been some experimental change I was not aware of ?

Is day 6 a reserve day or has there been some experimental change I was not aware of ? But it will be used only if there has been play lost due to bad weather across the regular five days, they are unable to make up for it in those five days, and no result has been reached by the end of day five.

  • Reserve day might be needed to, storms forecast.
  • I'm happy to sit elsewhere than the Hollies! I like the newish  stand at one end.
Which one is that?  Tempted by the Hollies but then we're close the day before and so will likely have the benefit of watching all the chaos without having the view obstructed by a bloke in an inflatable Baywatch costume!

Then again if it's a last day thriller where would you like to be....

That's a dick response. Just because someone has a different view to you, they are not automatically wrong and do not deserve the level of rudeness in your replies.
I wouldn't have been this rude to any other poster, but Chizz gives easily as good as he gets
    Fair enough 😂

I think it's just called the south stand. It's a modern facility, and near the Hollies so that you can see the activity without having to partake in it!
  • There have been some outstanding leaves in this Test so far
  • Quite passive from Australia this morning. They do realise that day 6 is only a rain reserve day, and that it's not actually a 6 day Test?

Bit of a late declaration too.

Still going to win but I'm not sure they needed to set 444.
  • I can't decide whether the Test going to a 5th day with India only 3 down is potentially better for Australia, as they will get battle hardened, or better for England, as they will get tired!
  • Poised for a good day tomorrow. Aus need 7 wickets, India need 280 runs.
  • Kohli and Jadeja out, it will end quickly now
  • England beat India by 209 runs. On to The Ashes. Can't wait for the contest to come.

World Test Champions mate, keep up!!

Apologies. My mistake. We, actually, had a far more satisfying and meaningful 10 wicket win against Ireland to win the Brexit Trophy
  • Did we want Australia to win or India to win ?

Probably India if only for the fact that defeat for the Aussies would have created more doubts in their minds coming into the Ashes. All their bowlers produced the goods as did four or five of their batsmen.

We didn't care. But we were rather keen on Australian batters getting rapped on the knuckles a few times and their bowlers collapsing with exhaustion and side strains

Could have done with them struggling much more in the field today
  • Aussies took some blinding catches during that match..thought India were very poor in the field by comparison.

They certainly took some great catches - two by Green, in particular. But they also dropped more and took wickets with no balls. That's sloppy.

Would you rather take wickets with no balls and still take 20 wickets, and win by over 200 runs, or not take wickets?

I think if India had scored 500/5 in the first innings and Australia had taken 2 or 3 wickets with no balls it would be more of a problem.

Sounds to me like Australia were actually able to take 30 wickets and still win.

I wasn't impressed with the Indian outfielding on Day 1. It was like Indian teams of 20 years ago, rather than the super slick fielding compulsory in T20s, with fielders diving everywhere to save runs. It was quite nostalgic to see fast bowlers on the boundary sticking out a boot to stop the ball!

Indeed they probably lost the game on Day 1 with ordinary bowling and a lack of intensity.

Well, I hope they drop more catches and bowl more no balls in their next five Tests
  • Sam Hain scored his third century of the season in the CC today. He has to be one of the unluckiest cricketers not to have played any form of international for England.

Hain's lifetime averages in all forms of the game read:

    First Class - 40.35
    50 over - 57.30
    T20 - 41.07

    This season:

    First Class - 76.57
    T20 - 139.00 (at a SR of 168.14)
