Britons Protection on Great Bridgewater Street - close to Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop - is a wonderful little ale/whisky pub which serves until midnight. The Peverel of the Peak, a little further back towards the city centre, is another lovely old boozer.

If you've booked into the Travelodge at "Manchester Central" (just on the Salford side of the river) you're near another great old-school, very off-the-beaten-track pub called the Eagle Inn.

Fierce Beers on Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter is great, as is the Castle on Oldham Street. And get a burger in Almost Famous. You can't really go wrong in the Northern Quarter. Rose & Monkey further up is good - they also do Indian food by This Charming Naan.

Within (extended) walking distance of OT and Salford Quays hotels: Seven Brothers in Media City - pretty much next to the tram stop - which is a great craft beer place.

Some great pubs mentioned there, The Marble Arch Inn is well worth a visit....though a bit out of the way. Another classic is the Grey Horse Inn, though it's a 'tad' small. The Old Monkey and The Circus Tavern (close to each other and also close to the Grey Horse) are also worth a visit, those 3 pubs are all on Portland Street.
  • Apparently we’re heading for place called the directors box. That’s a bar and not in the ground, so no photos of anyone who could be buying us.
  • Will there be lots of us drinking at Salford keys do people think or will everyone be at Deansgate
  • Both I should imagine.

I'm definitely going to The Quays and meeting a few other Charlton fans there.  just 10-15 minutes walk to the ground from there.
  • Will we be locked in at OT after the final whistle & if so for how long?
with 9K+ Addicks there & prob 50% staying overnight is the best way into centre
via Tram after the match, forecast looks torrential rain !
Going to take tram from Deansgate to OT & get in early.........

    decent sports bar that one

Both. Suspect most people who are staying in the hotels at Salford Quays will stay round there once they’ve checked in rather than go back again to the city.

That’s definitely what I’m doing. Plus as its walking distance to the ground should also take out the hassle of trying to get the ground from the city ahead of the game.

Assuming a comfortable and uncontroversial United win, I can see no reason why we'd be kept in afterwards.

    Agreed.
  • For those with a bit of time to spare the Science and Industry museum is pretty good.....the wife went there on one of our visits to MU.

A cracking museum (and free too), so well worth a visit before or afterwards

looked into it & they let Man City fans out same time, if match gone ok
so unless Addicks win.....16-1 odds...we will be out with 60K Manc's
and then its a pain getting back into central Manc on tram so a walk or if luckily a taxi
shame its going to be typical Northern weather.....heavy rain all day all night

I went to the game we lost 2-0...should have stayed with the Mrs.
  • So my daughter has fallen ill and is unlikely to bounce back quickly enough for tomorrows trip. We were due to stay over in Manchester and come back the following day.

On the Wednesday I had booked us the 10am Stadium tour, it would be a shame for these to go to waste so if anyone could make use of a stadium tour ticket for an adult and one under 16 at 10 am please drop me a message.

Hmm, Guinness or a museum, that's a tough call.
For anyone facing this dilemma, the museum sells beer. Hope that’s a weight of your mind @Covered End
  • Anyone plot up somewhere suitable for a mixed crowd round Salford Quays in the afternoon/ before game, give it a mention on here, cheers

Sorry I was taking the pi$s.
I will not be visiting any museums.

  • Forecast is the rain finally stops completely around 9pm tomorrow so at least we won’t get wet after a spanking!

Can’t seem to message you Jon. Would fancy that though 👍
  • Me thinks a lot of the stadium tours Wednesday morning will be heavily Addick filled!

14 of us having dinner at the Beefeater next door to the Premier Inn in the Quays where some of us are staying.

Table/s booked for 5pm as was told it will be stuffed around 6pm & it'll take around an hour for main courses to be served.

Happy to drink there as we'll have a 15 & a 7 year old with us, although some will be driving back after the match.

Will be around that area Fanny as want to get something to eat in afternoon too (host of chain eateries around there). Will keep a eye out

We'll be having a few around Deansgate and will then head over to Salford Quays around 4.00pm - avoids the packed trams if we leave it any later. The Beefeater sounds good but shout out where you're drinking.
