Have been looking at one of the overseas volunteering roles which is looking after the turtles 🐢 out there. A few things already planned this year, but might give it a go next year.
Worked with a girl who went a couple of times who I know loved it out there. I know she visited the Cloud Forest, but she generally just raved about the people, beaches and the rainforest trips.
Yea, but way back in 2000 on a BA holiday. 16 of us plus guide and driver in a large minibus (until the wheel, literally, fell off!). Excellent trip. Rain forest, cloud forest, circled Arenal volcano without ever actually seeing it (shrouded in cloud throughout!) though you could hear it rumbling! Then finally a week on the beach. Brilliant for bird watching, sea fishing, turtles, nature, insects, hot springs, frogs, sunsets, bananas, volcanoes, coffee, etc etc etc!
It's probably changed a lot since then (a lot more Americans seem to go nowadays...) but they are very eco friendly so I hope it's not been too commercialised...enjoy!
Finished our Central American adventure there & wish we had stayed longer as I thought it was wonderful. We did feel it was an extension of America but in a good way. Most of Central America is lawless & you genuinely feel unsafe. Didn’t feel that at all in Costa Rica. The cloud forest is a must, especially the zip wire. You can’t miss that, it’s amazing. The wildlife is jaw dropping. Hummingbirds hovering all around you as you’re just wandering down the road. You’ll have the time of your life x
I have a flight today from Cancun to San Jose and will be travelling around Costa Rica for the next two weeks. I’ve not been before and I’ll be happy to answer any questions and comment as I travel around.
I’m sitting in my hotel watching Charlton TV whilst waiting for a car to the airport. I’m hoping to catch some of the match against Barnsley.

I was only able to watch the first 14 minutes of the match. Obviously missed the first goal and the rest of the match because there wasn’t a signal or signal wasn’t strong enough on the way to the airport. Plus a frigging traffic jam meant I missed the match. The odd glimmer of data gave me a bit of access to CL match report.
Anyway, 3 points in the bag and now on plane to Costa Rica.
Went there 20 odd years ago (the season we won the Championship - remember trying to get scores in an internet cafe). Fantastic place and one of teh best holidays I've had. Stayed on both coasts and had a great trip up to the cloud forest and near an active volcano.
Only here a few days so far and on a tour. Crossed from SanJose to Tortuguerro which is the carribe side of the country and staying by the national park. Seen loads of animals; crocodile, cayman, iguanas etc. loving the place with an added bonus of good food n drink. If you love the flaura and Fauna book your trip. People are friendly. @Addick Addict

We had a private driver ferry us around, it wasn't too expensive and really helped on some of the unpaved mountain roads.
Stay on the edge of San Jose before/after flying rather than in the city centre.

(Readers: we go to matches together, but obviously not while I was in Costa Rica...)
