  • One game last season, can’t remember which one, we went in the West stand for a change, we were early in so bought a couple of pints, walked over to the wall between bog entrances and put the drinks on the shelf and the shelf (and drinks) fell straight off the wall!
I was still laughing “typical Charlton” when a lady steward come over very apologetically, replaced our drinks and put a call in for a maintenance man who arrived just as we headed up to our seats.
Less serious than a light fitting (or worse a speaker) falling onto someone’s bonce mind…
  • Surly the landlord is responsible for the upkeep of hie property?

Depends what type of lease we're on.

Knowing Roland, it'll be one that we have to pay for ourselves and have to use his people who'll charge double the money

Not if it is an FRI lease (see my post above)

Very much doubt it being a commercial property, I would bet on it being an all repairing lease.
  • What was the 3rd?

The cable designed to take the weight?
  • You would have thought that with the Cambridge fixture being postponed, then all stadiums would have checked the condition of public areas to make sure they were safe. I was sitting behind the light in question and the evacuation was random to say the least but the situation should not have reached that point.

Just to add a different angle to this, when my company used to maintain the electrics at The Valley including the emergency lights we regularly reported faults and safety issues to the club, all of which were ignored for months before being rectified.

On one occasion all the emergency lights in the South Stand had malfunctioned and the club held two home games before the problem was solved, and this was during the winter months when it is dark at 16.30, it could have been very messy if there had been a power cut.

I could tell you a lot more but wont however this is not a new thing, been going on for years at The Valley

Out of interest - the bloke I met in the pub said electrics were not up to current standards / regulations - I found this rather shocking - are these things not covered by the safety in sports grounds law, and subject to annual checks, given it’s a football ground with a 27,000 capacity ??

I see what you did there 😆
  • Was there not an issue some time ago regarding the floodlight lamps blowing and subsequent glass from the lamps falling on to those at the front of the east/west stands?

    West Stand  = toffs
    East stand  = 'erberts

You can see where the priorities lie 😀

The daft thing about it was the stewards were trying to move us at half time & asking us to sit in other parts of the stand. Problem was it was half time & around 50% of the fans in blocks F&G weren't in their seats as they were either going to the loo or for a pint. So no-one could tell what seats were legitimately free & what ones would be taken come 4pm.

In the end only a few rows were moved.....but I spent a good part of the 2nd half looking up at the light & not down on the pitch.
You continued to sit under a light that you thought might crash down and kill you? We’re not playing that badly mate.
Not sure it would kill, but woulda thought you'd be very light headed
No doubt, someone will take a dim view of the situation.

It is a full repairing lease and the defects are not RD’s responsibility. The council is the licensing authority and ultimately responsible for ensuring safety issues are addressed.
  • Sounds like Greenwich Council should carry out a safety inspection.

Question. If the stand was full and the stand was unsafe for the public would game have been abandoned?
    Very worrying.
Many things going on at Charlton that seem to be worrying.
Question, if my Aunty had a cock would she be my Uncle?
    Now thats worrying

  • What about the flares at Man Utd and also a prior home game by "our fans"? the ones at the our home game - they were thrown and lodged in the North Stand superstructure, if they were near electrical cables could have started a fire.
Unfortunately all the signs(near ticket office etc) about not bringing pyrotechnics into the grounds have had the opposite effect by giving the idiots a new idea.
Also the Man Utd security "seemed " stringent when they searched me but maybe I look suspicious

There has been a toilet in the East Stand where there hasn’t been a lock on it for two seasons now. The lamp will have to join the repair queue.
Can you advise roughly whereabouts in the East this unlockable door might be found?  I never go in the East but can see if I can get someone to rectify
It’s in the first set of toilets (men’s !) after you come up the slope from the Harvey Garden turnstiles.

Someone in the crowds head stops it smashing on the concrete
  • No wonder we've had 4 managers of the spin who didn't want to switch things

You have no idea what I was doing or where I am this weekend.
Charlton will be hearing from more people this week re this incident.

Trust nothing falls down on anyone.

Apologies C, but your first 3 words were "didn't attend yesterday", so I'm presuming you wasn't there.
You do realise Charlton life gets me into alot of trouble with the Wife?
I can't be the only one.
I sit here reading one of the various threads,  smirking or laughing to myself at the goings on on Charlton life.
The wife walks into the room or looks over and says you on that Charlton life again , you wanna get a life.
