I am sitting at a hotel in lovely sunshine. Someone just asked me what I was doing. "Working, I suppose?", he said. I explained I was just compiling the fixtures for this week's Prediction League and would be posting them shortly afterwards. The fellow hotel guest was clearly intrigued and asked how it worked. I explained, pointing out that it was three points for a correct score, one point for a correct result and no points if you get the result wrong. "So, that's four points if you get everything right?" he checked. "No, only three", I replied. "What if they get the score right and the result right”, he asked, "do they still get three points?" I confirmed that three points were all you could score for each game. He was now thinking outside the box, as they say. "What if you get the correct score but get the result wrong?" I can't remember what I muttered, but he could tell I was starting to look exasperated. As he walked off, he said, "sounds complicated".
I suppose it is complicated. The best three errors I've seen this season are: 1) Predicting a game that isn't even taking place. 2) Predicting a game that is not on the list. 3) My favourite - predicting a game after it has been played AND getting the score wrong.
With this all in mind, I hope you are all ready to predict for Week 24 and for the last time this season, everyone will be taking part in one of the cups. It's the 2nd Round of the Prediction Knock-Out Cup, and, for those he failed at the first hurdle, it's the 1st Round of the Johnstones Paint Prediction Cup.
