Matt Penney, who won two player of the month awards after joining Motherwell in August, has returned to Ipswich Town following the expiry of his loan deal.
The 24-year-old arrived at Fir Park on a six-month loan from the League One side and was a resounding success.
Steven Hammell said: "Matt is back at Ipswich, however we remain in dialogue with them with regards to him."
The Motherwell manager added: "Although discussions are ongoing, we are constantly looking at viable alternatives in the transfer market.
"Matt has been an outstanding addition to the team this season and should he not return to the club, I want to thank him for his effort in his time at Motherwell."
Two player of the month awards at Motherwell, left-footed in a position we need. Couldn't care less if he's from a team in the same league, they have about 8000 players anyway
For a left back to win player of the month is actually quite impressive tbf. To win it twice in 5 months could be a good sign I understand Motherwell were very keen to keep him as were their fans but he’s ours now.
Dont recognise the name... Welcome though - Glad we've sorted out the main issue that has plagued us for the majority of the season. To be fair he doesnt need to be anything special, as Steven Sessegnon hasn't put a foot wrong for us.
What we've needed though is support for him, as Steven has shown he has fitness issues, plus there has been times where his need to cut back on to his right-foot has halted our momentum up the pitch, so to have Penny in as a different option is good news...
If he is out of contract in the summer then the better he does, the better the teams that will offer him a deal. Which will be good for us in the run in.
Never heard of him. Glad to have a left footed left back in.
He said he wants to give 110% in a Charlton shirt too. The last person who wanted to give >100%, lasted for 40 mins before pulling a hammie. Just give a little less please Penney.
Looks a decent signing on paper, though I wonder why he wasn't good enough for Ipswich. Still young enough to improve and potentially become a permanent signing.
Considering he went to Motherwell on loan the sort of signing we could have made in the summer. Instead it appears TS and MS thought Clayden was good enough. They saved on wages for half a season but those 2/3 extra signings we needed in the summer could have been the difference between a playoff place and mid table.

But as we know from our Purrington discussions on Charlton Life, SPL is League Two at best.

Ipswich spent a LOT of money on Leif Davis so he was always up against it there.
I would hope it’s a loan with a view to extension it at the end of the season if it all goes well
Trying to think of a Pasta pun but I've been up for nearly 19 hours due to an early start and cancelled Eurostar ski train back from the alps. So someone please help me out.

Didn’t Ipswich spend 900k on a left back from Leeds ?

Ipswich have the option of an extension but as it stands he’s out of contract at end the season

Was bought by Ipswich in the summer of 2021 alongside the likes of Scott Fraser and Macauley Bonne so there will be some immediate familiarity there.
He also came through the Sheff Wed academy with Sean Clare.
