  • Both first years so suggests they’re highly rated by the club.
  • Good luck to the pair of them. Looking at young Keenan makes me feel very old.
  • That was only Enslin's 2nd game in midfield and feels his best position is LWB !

Kai was chasing everything down like Daniel Kanu and was decent on the ball. He definitely gave 100% and was full of enthusiasm.

Best not to go OTT as Toby Stevenson scored 4* on his debut in a lower ranked tournament despite not being a forward !

    * From memory and at 24 he did play for Chatham town in 2024 but I believe he is now at Brentwood town.

I don’t remember seeing loads of Stevenson, but he didn’t stand out other than potentially being a solid defensive FB. Wasn’t particularly strong in terms of technical ability, pace or strength.

Enslin to me from a handful of u21 streams this season looks to have a bit of everything. First team football will test that though, defending at u21 level isn’t great leading to plenty of chances, it’s not as physical and intense either. I found that makes it harder to judge his defending vs things like his pace, ability on the ball, decision making and work rate.

Enslin, meanwhile, joined the Addicks at U13s level and he is a left-footed wide player that likes to operate from the right side of the pitch.

If we want to play 433 with inverted wingers, he's probably the only person who can play that role, as we have NO senior players of that type.  T Campbell's preferred position is as an inverted winger on the left.

  • So is Kai his first name or part of his surname?

His first name I assume from this

His shirt had Kobashi Enslin on the back last night. Kai is his first name.

His mother is Japanese. His younger brother is also in the academy.
  • Thanks,

Strange that the club haven't used his full name previously but great that he credits his heritage.

I wonder if Charlie has tried to leverage the Japanese market yet?

Charlton / Japan half and half scalves?
  • Amazed to find out he hasn't been playing midfield at youth level. I thought he looked very comfortable in midfield last night and certainly it was not noticeable that it's not his normal position. He looked comfortable in possession and was taking up good positions to get involved in the game as well as having a bit of mobility to drive forwards with the ball (which would figure if he's usually a wing back). I particularly liked that he played on the half turn and was always looking to go forwards with his movement and passes. He never looked rushed on the ball either, which is always great sign.

I said on the match thread, he reminded me a bit of Albie Morgan when he first broke through in 2018/19 and eventually did well enough to earn a start in a playoff semi-final later that season. It was only a Jonstone's Pizza Van Trophy Cup game, so I don't want to over hype anything, but I thought it was a very tidy debut and there was enough there to mean he should get some further chances around the first team where we can. He had a better game than Berry, for example.
  • Two things really stand out in this video, in the clips from the first half he’s really good at winning fouls. Obviously some of that is down to the referee but it’s something we’ve been lacking this season. Similarly, in the second half he was really sharp when losing the ball and didn’t let his head drop. A really good debut, especially when you consider he didn’t know he was starting until he arrived at the ground

Watching that reminded me of Jonny Williams a bit - finding a way to get fouled rather than conceding possession.

I think our inability to protect the ball so far this season has largely been by design (everyone's clearly drilled to move the ball forward as quickly as possible) but a player like him is a nice option to have. That said, def not one to rush through on the basis of a good showing against Bromley's 2nd team.

Haha exactly the name that came to mind for me too!

Agree with all your points, wouldn’t mind seeing him on the bench though given our lack of pace available at the moment and he seems quite versatile which NJ likes
