How long does the light stay off when reset?. Long enough to get through the mot?. Think insurance will be a problem if no mot.
Usually a month or 2 before it comes on again, so easily will get through an MOT once it has been switched off. But I have no clue how to do that so looking for a friendly MOT centre (like last year) who would do that. Mercedes said that they couldn't do that for love nor money. Too mush of a risk.
In the Merc dealership now. Looks like they will go ahead with it as they realise waiting 4 months for a NOx sensor just to pass the MOT is ridiculous.
Merc dealer agreed to do the MOT with the warning light "disabled". Warned me though that if it came on during the Test it would be a fail & all I would be legally allowed to do would be to drive it home.
Took the risk & passed with flying colours. All I now have to do is to source the NOx sensor & get it fitted before next years MOT.
Thanks again to one & all and please say thanks to your mates etc who would have helped me if I couldn't have got it sorted today.
I think it does affect the car as what it senses affects the cars operation. 'The NOx sensor is a very complicated component and can be expensive to repair however, it's often not actually the sensor that is causing the problem but the lambda probe inside the exhaust which tests the NOx levels which have malfunctioned, and this is something that can easily be replaced'.

Install the free app on your phone, connect to the scanner via bluetooth and then you can clear the fault, hopefully long enough to get the MOT done

Thanks everyone for your help & advice.
Will post more later.
