So Jojo has gone, attention changes to his replacement, hopefully something lined up...Kone maybe, be fine as a No 2, but goalkeeper is a tricky position to fill properly...
Good luck JoJo,real shame about the injury, was gutted for him, think maybe I would have wanted to keep him too out of the both we have, hope he has a good future in front of him
Thought he was the better of the two keepers. I get that when a fee is offered you have to consider it, and that a player playing for his national side will want to be somewhere where he knows he'll play, but I would have had him number one to start the season. I also would have given him a look in last season.
AMB is still a good first choice keeper at this level, but Jojo is more experienced and well rounded.
Thats 2 decent keeps we've signed in TS's tenure & neither lasted more than 1 year.
How's the black box Martin.. ?
To be fair, Wollacott was clearly a Garner signing and was important for what he was trying to do, it was just that Garner didn't last and Holden decided he liked AMB more. Keepers are weird, a change in manager can affect them massively. Who would have thought that after Kepa was dumped by Chelsea and they finally figured out their goalkeeping problem area with Mendy that just a season later Mendy would be being launched over to Saudi Arabia and Kepa would be back in place. I don't think Jojo was a bad signing, though Mac obviously didn't work out.
see they have just signed Adam Le Fondre too, thought he was well past it. Good luck to JoJo.
I spent years praying that we would sign Le Fondre .. difficult choice in the early 2010s between him and Paddy Madden .. of course we signed neither
I really rated Le Fondre. I saw a lot of him in his first season including his debut and IIRC scored in a LDV Vans Trophy game. As LA says, very surprised to see him still going.
Good luck to Wollacott, I thought he was reasonable.

Goalkeeprs careers are full of sliding doors moments. If Steer hadn't been recalled we may well have started the 2019/20 with Amos as first choice and the 2020/21 one with Philips as first choice. As you say its a funny old game.
Who knows what would have happened of he hadn't broken his finger.
Shame, thought Wollacott was very decent at this level. Looks like cost cutting unless someone of similar quality is lined up
Does it?
Could it be a player leaving as he has been told he isnt number one? Instead of keeping him to wallow on the bench we have give him a chance to resurrect his career and possibly bring someone else in to challenge AMB? Whilst making some money after getting him on a free.
Think it just makes sense for all parties...nothing more, nothing less.
TBH, I never saw enough of Woollcott to judge between him and AMB. I will go with the judgement of our keeper coach and Dean Holden.
The most consistent keeper we've had in last decade was Philips despite him being a stay on your line keeper when the action was in the box.
Pope definitely had the most potential which has come to fruition once he overcame the hard low shot to his body.
Ben Hamer was as mad as a box of Frogs but could be brilliant or a right flapper. Remember his fantastic penalty save at Leeds and also a worldy at Brighton late on. Also remember the bad when he conceded a goal against Colchester at the Valley when he kicked the ball into the forward to concede a goal🤦♂️
Ben Hamer left for the double your money and sit on the bench at Leicester. I asked Ben Roberts our keeper coach at the time if he thought Hamer went to get the Number 1 spot at Leicester considering Kasper Schmeichel had just signed up for 3 more years. "Money" was the answer.
Wish Jojo some good luck as he had terrible timing with his injury where he lost the WC gig and being Charlton's number 1.
The up and downs of being a pro sportsman is brutal.
Bit disappointed with this tbh. He dipped a bit before his injury, like AMB did towards the end of the season but I thought Joe was the better of the two.
The usual rules apply, if someone equivalent or better comes in then so be it, otherwise I agree with Mr Biscuit, it looks like cost cutting.
I was gutted for him when he got injured one match before the World Cup. He needs to be regularly starting matches and if we are going with AMB as the starting keeper that's not going to happen.
He arrived on a free and departs on "undisclosed terms" which suggests we'll get a few quid.
Good luck to him - he kept us in a few games early in the season.

So do we think Isted (if he signs) will be on less money than Wollacott ? I doubt it very much. We don’t even know if we got a fee for Jojo. Not quite sure why people immediately jump on cutting costs when there is zero evidence of that being the case. From my limited knowledge I would suggest we have just upgraded our GK options which to me is a massive positive. The constant stream of unrelenting negativity is very draining.
I like ABM and whilst his form did dip towards the end of the season he did have to play with the nose protector which could have played on his mind. Begs the question why Wollacot did not play.
If ABM is lined up as number one why did we let Harness go, who by all accounts was an able deputy and now deputy at MK Don's.

Like AMB, Harry Isted got an opportunity from an injury to the first choice keeper (Quad injury) and took it.

Well if the rumours are true re: Istead then AMB is at the very least going to have to fight for number one and may very well end up back on the bench.
Wollacott might not have been willing to risk the competition, or maybe he/we were just made a good offer for his services. Either way it leaves Harness out in the cold as Kone is apparently very well thought of and is probably going to be in and around the squad at least in the cup competitions.
I'm in the "M'eh" category on this one. I thought he looked okay before his pre-world cup injury, but equally he never looked anything special, to me. Wish him the best of luck in Scotland, but also believe there should be better keepers out there and within reach of us; in fact, we may already have one on the books in AMB.
This time last year we had seven keepers on the books - five of them, MacGilvray, Wollacott, Beadle, Harness and Harvey have all departed since. Kone is only 18 so here's hoping that Istead is going to sign. We would still be in emergency keeper signing territory if one of AMB or Istead two got injured though.

That's my point - if we get someone in who does a job then it's good business, but if we follow the example of Purrington and Washington last year and just make do then it's crap. Those two were competent rather than great, but Penney and Bonne hardly improved things.
Have we considered that AMB might also be on the move ?
Possible but seems unlikely honestly. If it did happen I would definitely be questioning how much say Holden actually has as I can't see him being happy to lose two keepers, certainly not before a replacement is confirmed.

And that’s my point. Isted should he come in is hardly a downgrade. Barnsley wanted him with good reason. He performed outstandingly for them last season and we were apparently able to offer a better package than a club he knows and will I’m sure be in or around the playoffs again. I’d say that’s all positive news. Should he not sign and the rumour turns out to be rubbish then I’m still perfectly happy for AMB to be number one with the option for an emergency loan should it be required. If that’s the route which frankly I doubt then if it frees up money for one of those positions we are in desperate need of then I can live with that too.

Preferred him to AMB to be honest who I'm not totally convinced by. He has got to improve his distribution.

No different to Wollacott.
