he wore won man of the match today from the lounges, he’s a proper grafter Surely that should have been Chuks
Aneke came on in the 64 minute to replace the ineffective Leaburn on the day. It a wonderful sight seeing Chuks back for a limited period( hopefully🤞this time we can keep him involved over the whole season but the curse won't allow it 😞)
Alfie May is a cracking player and those who doubted the wee man should be put in the stocks and have custard poured over their heads. There are other uses for custard which may come to fruition if we can achieve Mr Plum's ambition of win, win, win...🤪
As I mentioned above it's 50 goals in his last 92 appearances as he failed to score in any of his first three League games of 2021/22. In fact, he only scored one goal in his first seven League games of 2022/23 and of course didn't score in any of his first four games this season either. He's not the most prolific of starters in a season but once he gets going there appears to be no stopping him!
It’s been great to see him put an end to the doubts after his first four games without scoring and concerns we could have signed better.
He’s also shown he’s comfortable as the striker dropping deep as well as playing higher up and looking to run in behind.
There's been a fair few strikers who have not been able to hit the proverbial barn door but was mitigated/excused by the fact they at least did a lot of running and tried hard, or don't do much running but its okay as they pop up with goals. (I'm probably as guilty as anyone on this front to be fair.)
So how bloody good is it to have a striker who puts the graft in AND still scores on a regular basis too. They do exist and we finally get to see one playing for us not against.
I was chatting to Alfie's wife last week and she said he loves scoring goals but if he goes a couple of games without scoring, it gets into his head a bit and he ends up trying too hard, making it worse.
He told me he was frustrated at some of the early yellow cards and has had to adapt to the new rules but I said not to .lose his edge
My best advice to her was to tell him never to read the replies to his social media postings and never listen to the fans - especially if he's on a bad run of form or results. She said he learned that at Cheltenham albeit on a smaller scale as they have fewer fans. She also learned to take it all with a pinch of salt having sat there at games while he was getting slagged off by fans but when you meet her - she's just a normal person who has to put up with all this shit and not speak out (like Macauley Bonne's Mrs did)
TBF to her she is very grounded and doesn't let him get carried away. She's a Doncaster lass who really isn't into football so she listens to his gripes and tells him to sort himself out and get on with it. She brings their boys to the games but they are a bit young to appreciate it all and I think they can be a bit of a handful when they are bored. He seems happily settled now and has family around to visit frequently which he's not had the luxury of for a few years.
All I'll say is long may it continue on the pitch as his energy is infectious to his teammates and the crowd.
The way he celebrates anyone scoring shows how much of a team player and this means to him. His reaction to CBT's goal at the weekend was top drawer
We've missed characters like this over recent years. The team has been full of shirkers and moaners. Great to have some players with the proper spirit again.
Mate of mine is a big non-league fan and was chatting to him the other day when he said he had been a fan of Alfie May ever since he played for Erith and Belvedere.
He told me 2 things that I don't have a clue if are true but they made me chuckle!
The first is that he was nicknamed "Banger" at Erith because of his love of sausages!
And the second is that when he went on loan to Farnborough, he only stayed a short time as he got the Farnborough in Hampshire mixed up with the one nearer his home in Kent!
As I say, no idea whether either is true but they made me chuckle.
I'm struggling to remember someone who is so happy, like overly excited puppy levels of joy, to be a Charlton player, like he's won the Euromillions and is ready to party
