Man United are refusing to sell to Liverpool and will only sell to a club outside of England.

Is there any reason why Liverpool could not do a deal with a European friend, ie Lyon buy him and then Liverpool buy him straight off them for £250k more, or Lyon buy him and then loan him to Liverpool for the season with a view to a permanent deal.

Would be worth a fine just to piss Fergie off.

    This is not so mad a suggestion as it seems. I know it is a very different sport, but in rugby league a couple of years back a player wanted to move from St Helens to Wigan. The player and management all agreed it was the best thing, but knew the fans would never agree (traditional rivals and all). So they cooked up some deal with Bradford to buy the guy from Saints and then sell him to Wigan.

    Seemed to work out OK and everyone's pride stayed intact!
