This signing along with Ronaldo etc shows you what is happening in Football and how the likes of Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia are the power houses of football in the moden era. It's not just how much Kone can earn with a five year deal but his agent as well. Don't criticise Cafc on this move because how could we compete with that deal 🤷🏻♂️

I'm not quite sure taking an under 18 from a mid table league one side Charlton, shows that Qatar is a power house of football. Whilst we might see more and more players head over, like we did with China, these leagues won't be power houses until the current power houses take the club world cup seriously. Unless they somehow pay their way into the Champions League, the interest in these leagues is going to be lacking until they're playing the likes of Liverpool, Milan, Madrid etc in competitive games. So whilst the club world cup is expanding it remains to be seen whether European clubs are going to treat it as glorified friendlies or whether it could genuinely become as popular as the UCL

fair play to the lad tbh. There's no gurantees in a footballers career, if he can get a 5 year contract and paid a decent wage that will set him up, you can't really argue with it.

Power houses ? No they are not
I meant in the wider sense of ownership as well. UAE with Man City, Saudi Arabia with Newcastle, Qatar with PSG and they are trying to purchase Man United.
Early days in the ambitions of the Saudi league but seeing them go for a super star in Ronaldo plus other big names at various stages of their careers highlights their plan.
In the big scheme of things Kone move on 5 year is insignificant but IF/when Premier academy players go out to Saudi Arabia and other rich middle east countries because of agent and parent pressure then a shift will have occurred.
Has he not seen the weather forecast out there? It's currently 112F and will only get hotter. Poor career move footballing reasons
Maybe he/his father/agent sees it as a winning lottery ticket, or get rich quick scheme now - without the slog of proving yourself in the U21s and Third Division football?
It could even prove a short cut to stardom, as he if proves himself there, he'll be a big fish in a small pond and top European clubs will be interested.
Anyway, don't mean to be too cynical just because he was lucky enough to get the opportunity. If we were in the lad's shoes, some of us may have done the same.
Ridiculous move. He's not an established player, he's still learning his trade. What sort of coaching will he get out there, when compared to our academy?

He'll get a better Salary out there than here... thats it.
There is still a massive risk that he wont make it here in England.
Especially with the amount of Academy kids truly breaking into First Teams really low. Could even look at Maynard-Brewer and see him as a massive road block on the way to First Team Football
The number of senior world class players signing for these Middle Eastern clubs reminds me of the old leagues in the USA back in the 80's and 90's where untold sums of money were invested and which came to nothing. The obvious answer, as our American cousins found out, was to invest in bringing young USA-born players through. American 'soccer' has now benefited from this.
Ahmed attended an event in the region in the summmer holidays - he was invited by Hamza Serrar who is now based out there. He obviouly impressed at the event,
He is a muslim lad and he is moving there with his family. He can probably now give them all a far better life than he would have been able to over here for the forseeable.
With the investment in the region at the moment he will get top notch coaching, will play against some unbelievable player and can come back to UK in 5 years as a 23 year old who hasn't even hit his prime yet. And be absolutely minted
Good luck to him but it's absolutely gutting because I could see he was special from the first game I saw of him. I suspect he'll go far in the game and forever be the one that got away.
Thanks for the information Steve, and it backs up what I said on another thread. Great news for Kone, his family and his agent. Even more so hearing that Ahmed is a Muslim. (I assumed he was) Just like with Beadle, young highly rated keepers at clubs like Cafc will always move on whether too Middle east money or Premier money, plus TBF the highly skilled coaching and facilities. With Hamza Serra being a coach in the region since leaving Cafc I can see our this came about.

How long does he need to live in Qatar to be eligible to play for their national team?

MacGillvray
Harness
Harvey
Beadle
Kone
Woolacott
Who is our number three keeper now?
Academy Notes: Henry Molyneux - Valley Gold
He ended the season playing for the U21s - Wonder if he's out in Spain too, as didnt appear on the Tonbridge team sheet last night.

So he gets paid a fortune, plays from August-October then from February-May. Nice work.

There is no way he has moved there for any reason other than money, and I'd not knock him for that.
