- All the signings impressed, whether starting or off the bench. Quality over quantity.
- Academy continues to deliver. Anderson and Asiimwe solid.
- Happy we ground out three points against a competitive side that’s used to winning games. More to come in terms of attacking signings we hope.
- Tiredness played a factor towards the end. Felt Orient were fitter than us and although we could’ve scored a couple times on the break, they did look more likely than us from 80+ onwards.
Great to have the football back and good to start the season with a win. COYR
May unlucky not to score when keeper pulled off a blunder & then Dobbo took the ball of his toe. Runs all day long & just needs someone up with him who can score.
Played well but need better off the bench. Kirk wasted 2 chances
By the way, never watch 7 minutes of injury time on the match page of a bookmaker’s app. That little pitch diagram is just one ‘dangerous attack’ after another and the constant surrendering of possession.
Two things I wanted to say, firstly quiet first 60 or so mins for Fraser who was unsurprisingly man marked by pratley again thinking about this it makes total sense seeing as in my opinion Frasers one limitation is he is one paced so Pratley can keep up
second a quick shoutout to the guy sat behind me who has written off may after 32 minutes because to quote “Bonne is better because he was never this offside”
Got the job done, not much more than that. Big improvement needed against better opposition, we need to actually take chances that are handed to us, if they equalised after the Camara miss, I'd be absolutely fucking livid, as it would have been criminal.
Desperately need a striker and we need the back 3 to work out how not to look so open when a team breaks against us
Anderson worked hard. Asimwe was very good. Kirk is on borrowed time. Camara was quality but missed a sitter. Dobson was head and shoulders our best player was everywhere and popped up with the winner. May is very lively and needs better service than long balls from Ness. I thought Fraser could have come looking for the ball more. CBT scared the life out of them. I'd like to see some better patterns of play but a win is a win. Off to Peterborough next week!
No stand out players in my opinion, but nobody had a stinker either. My immediate thoughts are that our young lads Asiimwe, Anderson, Ness and Campbell all look full of promise but need some experience to help with their decision making, because that’s the big thing they’re all lacking. Fraser was quiet, but that’s understandable as he was marked out of the game which in turn gave others more time and space. AMB was ok, although that moment near the end was a bit iffy. Thomas looked ok and made a couple of good runs but feels like no more than a good squad member. CBT looked pretty good but was blowing out his arse by 60 mins and should’ve been subbed by then. Dobbo was decent. Jones looked alright. May looks like he could become a favourite if he can get the timing right with the offsides. Subs: Hector slotted in fine and Ness was ok moving onto the right Camara looked very good apart from that unbelievable miss. Edun looked decent. Kirk didn’t do that much, but he didn’t have much of a chance to. He did his bit with running down the clock. I’m certainly not criticising him for the “air shot” as the ball slightly deflected away from him as he was winding up to shoot and he clearly pulled out (as anyone would). And if anyone is criticising him for not taking a shot from 65 yards, they’re off their head. Keeping possession at that point was the right move and that’s what he did. If he’d got past his man and made 20 yards, then maybe shooting was an option.
All in all a good, but slightly tentative team performance. I’ll take that on the first day of the season, no problem.
For too long poor Ness was left trying, and failing, to find a long out ball because the midfield were not available. Fraser is too one paced and easily marked whereas Camara made a big difference. Dobson, Camara and Anderson or the new lad would be my mid three.

Why is it whoever we play, they always seem to be fitter than us?

First game, a newly promoted team as well as a derby. Banana skin all over this one so well pleased with the 3 points and plenty of positives for the season ahead.
Very impressed with Asimwe and Anderson. Overall a good solid performance, thought we deserved it overall but towards the end looked like we were running out of steam so well played Holden for the subs at the right time. Dobbo was outstanding as usual, motm for me.
A striker is a priority and we need to stop this Hollywood ball stuff, we were far more dangerous playing to feet.

We literally have no idea how Orient rate as opposition, but we have beaten them. That's all that matters
Some positives and some concerns today. We really looked dangerous down the wings with a number of players crashing the box (including dobbo at times). Gritted out a win without allowing any really dangerous chances. Biggest concern for me in preseason and today is that we leave way too much space in the channels with our use of a back three.
Start hector and camara next time and move Anderson and Ness to the bench. Need a forward desperately. Kirk is on borrowed time. McGrandles probably too once Taylor is fit although I like McGrandles as a backup.

Adun looks mustard.
Thomas had a good game.
Moe later when I'm home.
CAFC Well done you Reds

Charlton 1.74
Orient 0.29
Would have been a travesty if we hadn’t taken three points from that game.
