Sad news this morning that the father of World Cup winning goal scorer Olga Carmona died on Friday, but the news was kept from Olga until after the match.
These sorts of thing always put things into perspective. On reflection, I’m glad she scored the winner. It’ll be something her family will be able to take with them to cherish his memory.
In a further twist, the slogan “Merchi” that she revealed on her shirt after scoring (which was discussed on here at the time) was a tribute to a friend who had recently lost their mother.
