Not particularly well-known in the UK, I've been a big fan of his music for many years. A mix of rock, country, reggae and easy-listening, his trop-rock style was perfect to listen to on the beach and any laid-back establishments, and his concerts (I went to his fist London gig a few years ago) were legendary. Very sad to hear of his passing.
