Sure the argument would be that the holding onto the ball is still part of the first point of contact, but not sure many have got the skill or the space to try it in a game anyway!
I don’t think the balancing of the ball is the only way it can be done. Having your foot on top of the ball and then rolling and flicking it would be do easier. As long as the touch is constant throughout.
