Michael Appleton - March 2025 appointed Shrewsbury manager (p124)

I am currently in Florida. Weather was rubbish so we did a bit of shopping yesterday and saw an Armani Exchange baseball cap. I thought, it's got A X on the front that must be shorthand for Appleton Out.
So, I bought it and the hat did its job. From now on it will be my new lucky cap.

Surprised we haven't memed him more, pictures of him with hands in pockets with captions about waiting for a new manager.1 -

Should have been sacked after the Gillingham cup defeat, has made a career out of compensation and general failure. Worst ever appointment (since Frayea) as most of us knew. Threw that game away yesterday when he should have bought Kanu on for Ladapo who was shattered. Some terrible decisions hence the chant ''Michael Appleton - you haven't a clue''. Would prefer the performing seals like Bowyer etc. Devoid of any sort of personality or enthusiam, should be a warning to any other club foolish enough to give him a contract!13

We need a man manager, who is a good coach that instlls pride in the shirt and, more importantly, themselves. We do have the players to get us to safety, but we need a manager who has been there and done it at this or Championship level. So for me it's between Jones, Duff, or even Warnock. If it's either of the first 2 I'd ask AC to oversee as an experienced 'old head'. As for Scott he has to get this right or he should also fall on his sword/sacked.
Next few days are crucial in the future of our once great club....the clock is ticking!
We need to get out of this mess. We have the players, we need a manager they want to play for and who has a bit of gravitas about him to get them playing.
Jones seems to be the most capable out there, Bowyer also isn't employed and we know about him. Let's not have a punt on someone who 'might' be good. There's been too much of that.26 -
Hoping Fleming and Pearcy do well. The thought of hiring another dud isn't worth thinking about10

The answer is, someone like Micky Apples, eyeing up 6 months work and a generous pay off at the end.
I despair!
If the owners are serious about success, AND recouping their ever increasing losses, then they need to get the next appointment right. Surely a proven manager with free reign is the only sensible business decision.
(Of course they won't get rid of scott he's one of the gang)4 -

Whether Scott is good at his job, the jury is very much out. Some good recruitments this window, I still don't know who was in charge of what and when over the summer, and last Jan was poor.
But given how frequently this club changes managers, there needs to be continuity in recruitment of both players and managers. We have desperately missed that, and we seem to perpetually be a window behind when recruiting, e.g. we recruited for Garner last Jan and in the summer with ball playing CBs and midfielders, and it feels like we recruited for Holden's 3-5-2 in this window.0 -

But assuming Jones is a no go, and I struggle to see him coming here and us affording him, Duff feels like a clear front runner.
Cawley says Euell would be interested, but I don't think this is the time for someone who has never managed at senior level before.0 -

Rowett, Jones or Pearson would be fine, all have managed at levels above us and recently.0

Mendonca In Asdas said:And for posterity, chilling…It shows how awful the bottom of this league is. We haven’t won for months and yet we’re still 16th and four points above relegation. Even if the teams currently in the drop zone won their games in hand we still wouldn’t be in the bottom four (thanks to Reading’s points deduction). All that said, we are heading into a very tough six weeks in terrible form and without a manager. This could go from a bad situation to a complete catastrophe very quickly.6

How about ex-Charlton legends that are currently in a managerial role - Claus Jensen!!
From this article
"In 2015, Jensen and two other Danish celebrities (a chef and a comedian) invested in Danish lower-league side Nykobing with a view to get the side promoted to the Danish Superliga by 2020. The former footballer was appointed sporting director/general manager of the club but took on the head coach role in 2020."
He's got what it takes to work with our SMT

Btw this is what we’ve been doing for the last few years pre-Scott and it wasn’t working out particularly well that way either…5 -
Some suggesting Rowett but part of the reason he left Millwall was because his family were still in the midlands.
made some comments to the SLP about missing his kids or kid growing up.5 -

Following the departure of Michael Appleton as Men’s First-Team Head Coach, the Board of Directors wanted to update the club's supporters. Please see the update below:
Our current league position and form over the last two months is not good enough and does not match the ambition and investment of the club’s owners or the expectations of us as a Board, the club’s staff and you, the supporters.
To arrest our recent form the decision has been taken to relieve Men’s First-Team Head Coach Michael Appleton and Men’s First-Team Coach Richard O’Donnell of their respective roles.
Our search for the club’s next Men’s First-Team Head Coach is under way. Given our current position and the ambition of everyone at the club, it is vital we get the right appointment to lead Charlton forward.
In the meantime Curtis Fleming will take interim charge, supported by Jason Pearce and Stephen Henderson. Curtis is a very experienced coach while Jason and Stephen have a real understanding of the club given their history as players at Charlton.
While appointing a new Head Coach is a key priority, we are also well aware that there is just over a week left in the January transfer window. We have already signed seven players this month and we are still looking to further strengthen the squad before the window closes next week. The transfer activity will be overseen, as it has been throughout January, by the club’s Technical Director Andy Scott.
We would like to thank you for your continued, passionate support and assure you that everyone at the club is working hard to turn things around on the pitch. Your support will play an important role in helping us finish the season as high up the table as possible.
