Now I despised how he acted towards the end, but after seeing what the Sandgaard's did to the club behind closed doors... It is quite understandable why he became Angry Bowyer all over again...

So yeah I'd snap him up, but only on a perm.

Was Appleton's 2 Blackpool spells under different owners? Does seem very odd he failed there twice.
1st time he resigned to go to Blackburn.
  • Appleton is a fantastic manager, just needs to work on his communication, acting, tactical awareness, man management , media management, touch line presence , substitutions, formations, player instructions, fan relations, tattoos , clapping, set piece drills, defensive instructions , game management and transfers.

Surely Scott's statement at the outset, dispels any possible reason that Appleton should need to work on any of your areas of weakness,. Indeed Scott was quoted as saying that Appleton, "has worked at the very top level" .

Can anyone that has moved beyond life's Sticklebricks stage, actually be expected to believe such crap? There's one thing, someone having a 'good interview' but there must be evidence to back up one's bluster.

I consider myself to be excellent at interviews BUT, that doesn't mean I can just rock up at NASA and think I'm going to be getting on the next shuttle.

Come on Scott, please come out and admit it, it is YOU that fecked it up, but NOT YOU, that will be paying the price of YOUR mistakes.

I wouldn't trust you to buy me a Milky Way, let alone sign off contracts worth £millions.

Don't want an interim manager at all. We'll have had three managers already this season by next week or so and that doesn't count the two caretakers. Imagine the players hearing that they're getting yet another new face in charge of them and that one probably won't be around for much longer either. How many different plans and ideas do players want to be forced to take on knowing it'll all be chucked away within weeks anyway? Why would you care in Bowyer bawls you out knowing that he's sufficiently untrusted that he's only the interim guy. Why would you buy into his ideas if it's not worth the time it'll take to master them? An interim boss isn't going to win over many players at this point in the season and it won't help with retention for next season or with potential signings either

what if Interim was on the table for now and then it would be looked at in the summer?

First of all, let’s be clear that at Charlton, we don’t have a manager picking the team, we have a Head Coach.

I’d be happy with either Lee Bowyer, Gary Rowett or Gareth Ainsworth. They all know how to get the most out of the players.

However, I have to say that I disagree with sacking Appleton as much as I was with the other coaches before them. Yes, we were shit, but I don’t believe it was due to him, and the same was true with the previous coaches.

I draw the parallel with a teacher at a school. As a teacher, you can be very good at your job but if the students (players) don’t listen,  aren’t motivated, hate the school (club) they’re at, have problems with other students (players), think they’re better than they are, don’t need to study, don’t try to understand and do the work then the teacher won’t succeed.

In addition, if the school administration don’t make the objectives clear, give the necessary information to the teacher, don’t address the teacher’s difficulties effectively, listen to what the teacher thinks is wrong within the organisation then again the teacher won’t succeed.

The teacher then becomes demotivated and at worst just does what the students want in full knowledge that it isn’t what they need, which starts a new vicious circle.
If, into the bargain, the teacher knows he will have a fully paid up 3 year contract (which would never happen) with no fear for his livlihood then why would he work his bollocks off to the detriment of his private life for a shitshow.

Imagine then a school with multiple teachers like this. The school would slide rapidly down the OFSTED ratings.

Charlton are a club on the slide. All the coaches since Boywer are like the unfortunate teachers in my analogy. Only changing the true management will change things, not replacing Appleton.
We may get a bounce off this new manager and survive this season but it makes no difference. We will go down by 2025 (I’m sure that I predicted this on here a few years ago). I’d rather have kept Appleton and risk it being this season because with each change we just get worse.
How on earth could we carry on with him.  How many more games would you have been at before you decided he had to go?

I would have carried on until the end of the season because:

    1. It gives the message to current and future players that at Charlton you cannot just ’down tools’, undermine the head coach and expect a change.

    2. It shows to future head coaches that at Charlton you get a minimum of one full season.

I accept that this policy means that based on current form we would have got relegated but:

    1. I think current form is due to players ’downing tools’ and it wouldn't have continued anyway once they realise the head coach is staying. I believe this because Appleton did get results earlier in the season that got us from our current position up to 9th.

    2. We’ve had too many short term, knee jerk reactions. We need to get back to thinking of our long term interest. It shows future coaches that we are not a sacking club. It also shows the players that the head coach is boss and not held ransom to soft baby players of such insolence and disrespect.
So your plan is to get us relegated, brilliant.

Too late for next season, need to identifying players now for when the summer window opens.

Corey's agent elaborating on what he said the other day, proves he's not got a clue really...
What I've taken from that is Corey needs a better agent because that was a tough read. How on earth does that guy negotiate contracts?!
Curiosity got the better of me, so I took a peek at his profile. I didn't have to scroll down far to find this gem:

A man once cheated me out of £15,000. He thought I would drop it. My revenge was sweet. I moved to his girl. Fucked his girl & then spent £15,000 on her. I don’t even know if that sounds childish but I really do sleep well knowing I’ve got that type of victory under my pillow.

Sounds just the right professional person I'd want as my agent............not.
So being 30k out of pocket is a win?

Thinking about Dubai saying (I think) that AS stood in the way of MA’s sacking on Sunday. Is it possible that with the additional funds available, people higher up wanted AS to move on from MA and get someone higher calibre, but AS wanted to stick a bit longer as it’s his guy?

Not from what I have heard of him from his time in Southampton.

No I will not say what it was.

    Here’s a thought, but 100% left field!!
    Bromley Manager Andy woodman.
Two leagues below us currently but would anyone be happy for him to step up?
He’s building something there and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re league 2 next season.
150 games in charge, 46% win ratio!

    Like I said, left field.
id be worried if we did appoint him, but only because he’s National league currently.

I know Bob knows the scene at Stoke better then most, but they've had a string of decent managers since 2018, and none of them have had a sniff of the play offs

Has nothing to do with AS it was legal point over a clause in MA contract they had to overcome before he could officially sacked ..

Surely if that were the case he would have instead just been put on gardening leave / stood down for the Tuesday game?

Gary Rowett won't do it.  He wants a job closer to home.  That is 100% accurate.

Rowett failed at Stoke.  As have many others.

Stoke has a significant amount of high earners from the Prem days who wouldn't leave and didn't want to play Chsmpionship football.  Has taken them ages to get rid of bad apples and dead wood.

Under Schumacher they have the chance to go forward at long last.
