What a comedown for Shrewsbury, thought Ainsworth was doing as well as can be expected (edit), just seen he left of his own accord

Clearly as one of the chief proponents of ugly football Ainsworth couldn't live anywhere as nice as Shrewsbury and has now found an environment more to his liking.
  • Re: Appleton will be suprised if he lasts until the end of the season!
Most of us knew what we were getting when he was appointed and dreaded it,
purely a mate of Charlie Methven.

Appleton talked about other managers faking passion....
I'll take one that fakes it over one that can't even be arsed to do that.

I honestly can’t imagine anything worse than being in Shrewsburys situation and then having to listen to that depressing bloke in their post match press conferences

    Well thats them down then,
  • You are all making fun of him but none of you would say it to his face though,

Jokes aside I'm interested to see if Appleton's tried and tested method of telling the squad how shit they are in training will lift morale.

That could describe many of our recent managers.

A recent quote on the squad he inherited at Shrewsbury, but reads like a description of our performances under Appleton.

He must interview so so so well to keep on getting chances.

That's an absolutely hilarious quote from someone that showed absolutely no passion during his time as manager.

The manager who tells us all reaction is performative complaining to the media that his players make his skin crawl. You couldn't make it up

I laughed when we got him. What a joke of a manager.

    Yeah, but, no but… vibes

Had no affinity with this manager at all. We were just unlucky to get him and it was a rubbish appointment by Andy Scott. But let’s face it the whole football industry is a managerial merry go round until you land somebody with a decent long term fit (and until their heads are turned by bigger things…)!

Because the people that run football clubs are largely incompetent.

I said when we appointed him that he wouldn't last the season. I didn't say that because I'm incredibly intelligent, I said it, as many others did, because it was blindingly obvious that it was a shit appointment.

When he went to Shrewsbury, they were already down. You have an opportunity, in those circumstances, to take a punt on someone until the end of the season, maybe a coach within the club, to see if they have got what it takes over the remainder of the season to take into next season. Nothing to lose.

OR, you can bring in someone like Michael Appleton who brings a track record and a guarantee of poor performances and bad results.

Fortunately, they only appointed him until the end of the season. But who would be surprised if they appointed him permanently, guaranteeing him yet another severance payment midway through next season.

The funny things is that the very thought of Michael Appleton makes my skin crawl. Like, literally, makes my skin crawl.

That latest quote from him confirms he is a bully.

Bullies are smart at deflecting their own negatives by shining a light on negatives they perceive in others. He is a terrible person to have around players learning about football at an early stage in their career.

You can see why Campbell's confidence was potentially so shattered under him.

Man Management is such an underrated aspect of Football

A certain diminutive former striker off ours actually told me “Appleton is the best coach I’ve ever worked for” so maybe he does have some talents but just not enough

I'm willing to believe that it's possible that his actual knowledge in terms of coaching is actually quite good, he might even have a fairly good grasp of tactics etc.
BUT he is absolutely awful at every level when it comes to communication and even connecting with people on a human, personal level, so players don't ever get any appreciable benefit from his (hypothetical) knowledge as they just plain don't like him.

Jones may be a nutter but he's a CHARISMATIC nutter. Appleton is a walking talking black hole of personality.

He's definitely more suited to the coaching side than the management side. He just doesn't have it to be the main man unfortunately for him.
