Blimey. I thought he died in the 70's or 80's !
When my grandparents died a several years ago half their record collection was of Roger Whittaker.

Such a distinctive, smooth voice. "Durham Town" and "New World In The Morning" are just two of my favourites of his

Very sad - he was one of the first singers I loved as a kid.

He was very good at whistling if I remember correctly. But I may be thinking of someone else.2

Whistling was very much part of his repertoire. It was a skill he learned growing up in his homeland of Kenya.Frankie_de_Toro said:He was very good at whistling if I remember correctly. But I may be thinking of someone else.1 -
Really loved his voice.
Rip to a great performer.
The only criticism is that it is the Wear and not the Tyne that flows through Durham Town although I guess that wouldn't rhyme.1 -

Great voice, as others have said you could listen to his voice all day.

To add to my earlier post, there are few who match him in that respect.Afternoon Delight said:Great voice, as others have said you could listen to his voice all day.

One of the sounds of my youth - I was at Uni in Durham (city, not town!) in 1969. so Durham Town has a particular resonance for me, along with Streets of London.
He leaves a great legacy.1 -
