Dunno how true it is but apparently fans who have been protesting against the owner recently have been handed banning orders from the club

A desperately sad situation. In 2017 they came 3rd in L1, in 2018 they came 5th to show how steep their fall on the pitch has been, and the chronic (and other stronger words) mismanagement in general.

Only a couple of years back that Scunthorpe were a force and played really good football , I know we had real problems up there when we played them … but people need to look at clubs like this and be thankful we’re we are and the future that we have ahead of us . Lot of teams would want to swap with us .

Scunthorpe in the last 5 years:

    2018-19 - 23rd (relegated from league 1)
    2019-20 - 20th
    2020-21 - 22nd
    2021-22 - 24th (relegated from league 2)
2022-23 - 23rd (relegated from the National league)

In 5 years they won only 47 league games.

This is a really sad story. I’ve been three times to Scunthorpe in the last 10 years, two losses and a draw, pretty desperate stuff addicks wise but it always struck me as a proud decent club. Really sorry to read how bad it has got for them.

Scunthorpe was owned by Peter Swan whose wife is the sister of the woman who owned and ran Wilko which has just gone bust. Doesn't take a genius to work out that the demise of Wilko and of Scunthorpe are a wee bit linked.
Swan ran Scunthorpe Utd for a long time and his stewardship brought (or bought) a lot of success for a small club. As with other clubs, as soon as the main money man departs, the sinking starts. Glanford Park is quite close to the M180 and next door to a lot of superstores, M&S, Tesco for example. If Scunthorpe survives the big inquest around the future of the huge steel works, the town's only major industry, the Glanford land could be quite valuable

The complicated Glanford Park story is taken from wiki ..

    Glanford Park property dispute[edit]

In May 2021, the then Scunthorpe United owner, Peter Swann revealed to fans that he had transferred Glanford Park, the training ground, car park and surrounding land to his other business Coolsilk Property and Investment Ltd, in exchange for £11 million worth of loans.[59] At the same time, Swann told the fans they could expect stadium improvements and that the club would have a 99 year lease so they couldn't be evicted.[60] In January 2023, David Hilton had completed a takeover of Scunthorpe and announced the deal included the stadium and surrounding land.[61]

However, following various disputes around money, land, paperwork and leases, it was revealed that Hilton had not bought the stadium within the agreed timeframe and had instead issued himself a 7-day periodical lease.[62] Hilton claimed that Swann was unwilling to sell without an unreasonable £1.5 million upfront before starting legal and paperwork.[63] Swann, through a fan message board, claimed Hilton was lying about the whole thing and didn't want to buy the stadium at all.[64] By this time, the gates the Glanford Park were bolted shut and a sign put up explaining the club were legally allowed to 'squat' at Glanford Park.[65][66][better source needed]

Swann began legal proceeding to sue both Hilton and the club, with an initial court hearing being adjourned until between January 2024 and March 2024.[67][68] However, in September 2023, the club said that fixtures after 7 October 2023 would be played at Gainsborough Trinity due to the dispute.[55]

First Southend and now Scunthorpe. It's been a good week for the survival of clubs seemingly very close to having their life support switched off.

Though it must be said that two clubs in one week coming this close to being rolled up in the first place is pretty alarming. Eventually some club will end up being the one to NOT get away with it

    That really is shocking.

    “To” instead of too.
    “Whos” instead of who’s.
There instead of they’re. Amazed the fans have put up with this for so long.

Scunthorpe United is delighted to confirm that contracts have been exchanged, as planned, for the ongoing purchase of Glanford Park.

The Board of Directors have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, having secured the immediate future of the club in October, with discussions progressing positively since the club’s last statement to meet the target of mid-November.

The club anticipate that completion will be towards the back end of November.

Not to far away from me, always enjoyed a pint in the pub across from the ground having a chat with the locals. Glad they are sorting things.
