Watkins & Bowen on the bench.

Replaces Henderson and starts Foden. Wow.

Wonder if Southgate feels a bit under pressure.

I don't think i've ever known less players by name in an Italian team in my lifetime - I think maybe 4 of them ring a bell?

Why are Channel 4 talking about Italy as if they're a burnt out shell?

"The man looking to restore former glories". Last time I looked they were the current European Champions!

Probably because they've failed to Qualify for the last two World Cups - Didnt realise their Manager was the fella who has just won Serie A with Napoli

But they're still the current European champions. I mean, we'd take that, wouldn't we?

Most sane people probably would - But if England won the Euros, yet failed to qualify for two bigger Tournaments around it, I'd dread to think how many fans / media would react.

Just to change the subjet slightly - i'll always remember that night world cup '98 qualifying when we had to go to Italy and get a point to qualify (after missing out in 94) The atmosphere in the pub as a 16 year old (I know!) was the most electric i've ever felt on an England night without being live in the ground.

I can still remember that sky sports music prompts for the game was "I'm back and ready to go" forget who it's by but it was amazing - every time I hear that song I still get goosebumps remembering it.

Ian Wright nearly scored really late on but hit the post then they immediately went up the other end and almost scored on the break.

    Failed the height test

    Failed the height test
Probably one of the bigger reasons - The names I mention are Italian legends, especially Baggio, but Zola was a little magician

90s was all about height in Football

What a shocking goal to concede.

  • FFS... All came from that lovely bit of control from Donnarumma

We really need someone to claim that 3rd midfield role.

Going in with either Henderson or Phillips is going to be trouble.
  • Kin hell... thanks for easing my fears about "Bake Off" there C4

    Phillips isn't match fit
Maguire didn't get close enough to the first man.  If he does, he clears that cross.
    Trippier at left back
    Sigh

Rice should be a good enough holding midfielder to play 2 more adventurous midfielders with him. Bellingham as the box to box and someone like Maddison as the most advanced midfielder I think would be fine

We're making the most bang average striker in the world look unplayable.

    Typical England.
