Below are the names set for 23/24, they aren't named after Met Office Staff, the names are shared with Ireland and Netherlands. You can put forward names to the met office, but they also use names from relevant people:

    See here, from abut 12:20 onwards if you don't want the other stuff;

Only just seen this thread from last year!

One question: What did I do?
  • Weird thing that as Storm Milton bears down in fury on Glorida, there are people on twitter in the US asking that whoever is using the 'hurricane making machine' to stop it.
  • We live in Sarasota. Evacuated yesterday to Ft Lauderdale. I feel sick to my stomach if I’m honest.

Best wishes it must be awful living in a hurricane zone.
  • We're monitoring by the minute as we head to landfall. Stay safe anyone who's in that vicinity, I fear this is going to be very big but there is still time for it to be a lower CAT 4, fingers crossed the storm surge isn't too bad.

@ChicagoAddick all the very best, everything crossed for you.
  • Thoughts with those in danger. Best wishes to you all.
  • Good luck folks. Thoughts are with you.
  • My best friend and her husband and toddler are in St. Pete. As of last night they weren't going to evacuate (they're sort of a ways back from the ocean so they should be okay). But it's still scary second hand. Thinking about you @ChicagoAddick

  • if anyone is in Florida at the moment, hope you manage to stay safe - pictures on the news look pretty scary knowing what's coming
Gordon Carrera reporting our there for the BBC. Did he pick the short straw......

"We need someone to report back from Beirut, Gaza & Florida......who wants what gig then."
Should have had Huw Edwards doing these.

  • Stay safe everyone there.
  • I was in a cat 5 hurricane in 2007 in Mexico. As much as mother nature amazes me it was shit scary. I've been watching this one on the live webcams on YouTube and will watch as much as possible into the evening. Best of luck to everyone in its path 🤞

He likes to be blown by something smaller.
  • Been watching this fella for the last few hours. Nutjob.

  • Cat 3 by the time it landed, could have been an awful lot worse had it made landfall slightly further North and as a Cat 4 or 5.

    Hope everyone is OK.

BBC confirms it was downgraded to Cat 1 when it hit so hopefully minimal damage

They might move on their own, as will anything else above ground level.

Cat 3 when it made landfall, moved down to a CAT 1 as it passed through Florida.
