"A new low for Charlton", "lowest moment in the club's history"
lol get a grip, it's just the fucking cup, in a month none of you will remember this game. we won at Wigan in the last game that really mattered, christ. and sure we were terrible today; we'll win the replay, we've learnt never to let certain individuals on the pitch for us again, all in all it's a momentary stinker. the amount of negative hyperbole I'm seeing is ridiculous! i'm much sadder when we lose a league game, this is just quite funny above all
Everyone comparing this to Northwich...there's a much better comparison - Dagenham & Redbridge. I was at that one. It was fucking shocking, many of you will recall we needed an 87th minute deflected equaliser. Our manager? Curbs. It can happen
If only we were a premier league team having an off day, instead of a piss average pile of wank who occasionally have a Chuks Aneke good day
They were also in the Conference (National League) and not midtable in the Isthmian League South East Division.

But where were we?
Kinda shows how far we've fallen and why games like this are so depressing no? That we're having competitive draws with slightly above pub level.
The only positive from tonight is that I don't have any mates so no one can text me to make fun of me
I hope that’s a joke. If not, message me. Seriously.
And if it IS a joke, fine work.
I have mates, no one else can see them but they're spot on.
It's a joke but that's genuinely really nice of you to check incase and cheers for looking out 😂
I have a grand total of 0 Millwall mates and my 2 Palace mates are fed up of texting me as I always swiftly remind them that we sent them down and 1947. I am safe as houses
Because every single player today was terrible and didn't stand out against non-league opposition.
Appleton comes out and says he only expected more from 3-4 of them, maybe a couple more. So what about the rest?
Some of them were fine (5-6/10) and no one played well. To say every player was terrible is IMO reactionary bollocks.
Could’ve put Erling Haaland in that team and he wouldn’t have been able to carry half a dozen wasters.
Who do you think gave a 6/10 performance? Other than Chem
Walker, Edun, Thomas, McGrandles, Fraser, Tedic were all fine or had their moments of decent play from what I saw.
I didn’t think Chem was that good either. With the amount of touches he had, he should’ve done more with it.
Walker? Seriously?
He only had a few things to do and he made a meal of every single thing - that punch out instead of catching it? Almost spilled at least two other simple catches. I guess he did a half decent goal kick at one point maybe?
He had one save to make from a free kick. Their player hit it deliberately to swerve and make it really hard to catch. Walker smartly punched it away from harm.
He tries to catch that and it bobbles in the net, we’ve seen it before.
gonna have to agree to disagree there mate I think he was terrible and my heart was in my mouth every time he touched the ball - thankfully it wasn't many times - there was also the very simple catch which he couldn't keep in his hands and had to pat down almost at the feet of an attacking player (the commentators very kindly called it "casual" it wasn't - he just couldn't catch it properly.)
If he does that kind of stuff against a better quality of opposition then we would get punished.
edit also I think we are talking about two different incidents with the punching - he came bowling out to punch clear (from a ball into the box i think) instead of catching it - don't think it was the free kick, although i may be misremembering.
I watched that on fast forward in about 20 minutes and it was still a load of rubbish. Had enough possessions and chance in the first half to put the game well beyond reach.

But where were we?
Not playing in an empty stadium every week, in a shit league, with a load of fucking dickheads for players.
The same people moaning about selection would have moaned if we had picked our best team and any of May/CBT/Dobson had got injured. They are just moaners
That team should have thrashed that level of opposition
I think we can safely say that Tedic, Kirk, McGrandles, Edun and possibly Ness are a waste of space, time and money and need to be got shot off, and quickly.
McGrandles wasn't poor, he looked ok. When was the last time he played? August?
edun, also rusty
kirk, I've really wanted him to do well but that was one of the worst performances I've seen in a Charlton shirt.
Cant remember McGrandles doing anything. Theres a reason these players are rusty they are either injury prone or not getting selected because they are crap, and no other team wants them on loan
Look, we've done all the minor chat, let's get onto the serious business now: after CBT broke the curse of the 23 shirt, do we now have to consider whether the 10 shirt is cursed? Ever since BWP used up all the luck in it and became rubbish for us we've had Sordell (lost), Moussa (absent), Ceballos (lol), Ajose (awful), Clarke (crippled), Parker (goalless), Aneke (mega-crippled), Albie (Albie) and now Fraser is rubbish. Might need to burn it
I normally have a bit of a rule I work to that people who talk about themselves in the third person are complete and utter bellends. It's a rule that's served Off_it very well thus far.

That's interesting, cos my rule is that people who come onto threads just to talk shit about other posters - having not made any other comments relevant to the thread - are usually insufferable twats, and it serves me well in the main.
The Northwich Victoria game on bumpy cold hard pitch was poor. This was terrible and shows the weakness of the squad. This must be one of the flakiest Charlton defences, I have ever seen.
Kirk was terrible and clearly does not want to be at the club. Kirk and the club needs to come to some accommodation over his contract. There may be nothing left of Kirk's career if he stays until 2025.
The game is live on national TV and a good peformance might have convinced lapsed Charlton supporters to return to the Valley with a competent performance. Making 11 changes was a really poor call. Atherton must know how poor many of these players are and the shakey morale at the club.
Only positive is the extra TV money that Cray Valley Papers get if the game is televised and they deserve that. Charlton will benefit from that but that's nothing to be proud of.
This is right. My son hasn't seen us live in the flesh since we were in The Championship. He saw us on TV during COVID. His interest has been reinvigorated by recent results and now he's back to punching the sofa again.
I can't believe how some people think the ranting is over the top. If anything we're easy on them. It's a disgrace.

I literally can't believe I liked this post after the Naby slander

Off_it has been out and away from his laptop until now. So it's the first chance Off_it has had to make any comment about anything at all and he is still working his way through the various posts.
I'm struggling to think of a more gutless, spineless, brainless performance than what we witnessed in that second half. Sure, the first half wasn't grand but at least we got ourselves in front and with a bit of gumption we'd have been through now, but it was a day when the whole team had collective amnesia and forgot that they were professional athletes. Actually, I just want to pause on that point. They are supposedly, each and every one of them, professional athletes. Their full time jobs are to keep their bodies in peak condition and to practice their footballing skills to a point where they can win games against other professional teams. Teams five divisions higher than they faced today. What a joke this little cluster of jellyfish are.
Walker: quite possibly the worst goalkeeping performance I've seen in a Charlton shirt. I don't think he caught the ball once. I'm not saying there's no place for punching the ball, but if that's your game you need to give some thought as to where the ball is going and you absolutely have to put your fist through the bloody thing so it doesn't come back at you. Not those soppy little misdirected rabbit punches we saw today. Thomas: he's had some mixed performances this year at full back. Centre back is supposed to be his preferred position isn't it? Well, you'd have never guessed it. Ness didn't look any better either. Abankwa: poor. Edun, McGrandles, Anderson: I'll cut them some slack, they were brilliant, but they weren't our real problem today. Fraser: Frustrating. He's got the skill, but just when you think he's going to do something good his stops, has a little crisis of confidence and goes the other way. Chem Campbell: I thought he played well - feel sorry for him. Tedic & Kirk: I'd say shocking performances, but the sad fact is, there's nothing shocking about it. We've seen it all before. The only shocking thing is that this pair are paid to play football. Against my better judgement, I still harbour hopes that perhaps Tedic will come good. I've no such delusions about Kirk though. I'm sick of making excuses for him. Poor Kirk, he's had some bad family news, go easy on him. Poor Kirk, he's had covid, cut him some slack. Poor Kirk, it must be terrible being a Northerner, give him time to adjust. I'm sick of making allowances for him. He's been a Charlton player for two years now and he's done nothing. Our top priority for Kirk now has to be getting him off the wage bill. Then we had the substitutes. Not one of them contributed as we'd have liked. I like Alfie May a lot. I like him as a centre forward and I like him as an attacking midfielder. What I don't like is seeing him pushed out on the wing where he's not in a good place to use his goalscoring talents. Leaburn: somebody needs to have a word with Leaburn. He may well be the most talented footballer on the pitch, but it counts for nothing if he doesn't use that talent well. He isn't Maradona dribbling around the Belgians. He's a League One footballer dribbling himself into trouble because he's not passing to his colleagues. Football is a team game. Pass the ball.
There were so many things we did wrong tonight. A lot of the passing was awful; slow balls that had so little energy they barely made it to the receiving player. Just not enough energy anywhere. The whole thing was so lethargic. Even with a couple over minutes to go our defenders were tippy tappying sideways and back. No-one was busting a gut to get forwards. Did we just think Cray would roll over? And when the subs came on, their effect was negligible. It's like the spirit of the match completely subsumed them and they anded up no better than the supposedly poorer quality players they replaced. The whole thing was a disgrace.
An the annoying thing is, I just know that all my mates will have seen it. People who don't see Charlton from one decade to the next will use that as their benchmark of what we're like. But had we played well and run out comfortable winners, no-one would have seen it.
Glad we're taking it seriously and respecting Cray Valley, especially having CBT available - Although a little disappointed we wont see any other youngsters.
Going for a 4-0 win... Hope Cray get a goal though
As I predicted a 4-1 win, I really hope Cray get a consolation goal
Heartwarming to see Gary & Sharon Jay several times on camera in the West Stand & well done them for staying on later than most to ensure they clapped the opposition players off at the end.
But even more special to see was "our" Ben's flag proudly displayed by the group.
All this garbage about the FA Cup not mattering because we’re not going to win it puzzles me. Literally none of the teams in the first round is going to win it, ever.
Spoiler alert - we’re not getting promoted either, so where does that leave the league games?

Almost... 🙂

All I can say is F**k off Appleton - you're a moron starting that team.
And even more, f**k off Kirk once and for all. Any charlton manager ever selecting him again should be sacked immediately.
That team should have thrashed that level of opposition
Every 30 minutes I will go to a mirror laugh in my own face and call myself a **** for wasting so much time in my life following such a joyless club.
I can't believe how some people think the ranting is over the top. If anything we're easy on them. It's a disgrace.
Was it as bad as Michael Cheek for Bromley against Blackpool ?
He will never have missed an easier chance in his successful National League career.
That alright with you?
