I still think it ends up being played at their ground. We’ll see.
Play it anywhere other than The Valley and it wouldn’t surprise me if Cray Valley ended up losing money on the game even with the TV money. If they only normally play in front of 150 then that doesn’t suggest they will have the infrastructure and facilities in place to accommodate a full house of fans, even if that’s only 800-1000, trying to get into and out of the ground, particularly in an emergency, move around to go to and from wherever they will be standing, go to the toilet etc and accommodate the TV cameras/commentators and crew trucks. If they play at a neutral ground then they will have to hire it.
I went to their record-breaking attendance match at the end of last season, if memory serves they had 900+ fans there. Clearly they're able to accommodate that sort of number, but a lot hinges on the legal aspects (fire safety and other shit I know nothing about).
And who prey did they play. Not their very local ex-Premier League club who have c7k Season Ticket holders and almost the same again regular supporters.
Holding it at their place is a recipe for disaster. There will be hundreds of Charlton fans wanting to go, even if it just to "tick off" that they've been to a new ground. And I'm not even thinking about violence or trouble at the match. Anyone heard of the Hillsboro disaster.
I'm read some hyperventling horseshit in my time, but this, well, chef kiss good
I think that reply has just about sealed it for me. Me & Golfie Jnr will go just to say we've been there. Bus ride of 20-30 mins, Maccy's for tea and then bundle in with lots of other ticketless fans. What's not to love.
Of course you will
Why wouldn't I ?
I've never been there so new ground Been to our other away cup disasters (Northwich, D&R) Its a short bus ride away with a MacDonalds over the road - in fact it will probably be quicker & easier using their loos at half time than any in the ground.
You're talking about getting into the ground without a ticket. There's more chance of @ElfsborgAddick buying a beer and the odds on winning the lottery are less than that.
What do you think would be done if 2000 Charlton fans turned up & tried to get in ? How many Old Bill would there be ? Serious question.
Remember, there were 6700 there yesterday.
Play the game at The Valley, midweek, and the crowd would be double that at least because they’d fill the JS stand this time and more Charlton fans will get along, plus it would be a game that would appeal to neutrals. Cray Valley will probably be turning down another £30k or more by playing the game at their ground. That sort of money added to the tv cash could be the difference to take that club to a much higher level, literally.
£30k might be pushing it for ticket receipts, given the split. I doubt if yesterday yielded much over £40k in total before expenses, which probably swallowed half of it. CV’s share was likely nearer £10k.
Looks like allotments top left, that’s where I’ll be heading
Don't forget your waders then - there's a river in between the two!
That's the Quaggy, which is, at this point, in a concrete culvert. Unless there has been torrential rain, its normally about 2 inches deep and a foot wide...
Got my 20 tickets in the post this morning 4 scum mates , 3 pissheads from the Yorkshire Grey , 8 family members from Eltham area and I’m touting the other 4 to the oooooh it’s a new Ground of wankness to watch Charlton at posse

Cray have already hit the jackpot by a) drawing us, b) it being live on tv, c) earning a replay, d) the replay also being on tv.
Whilst i'm sure they would love even more money, i don't think gate receipts are the big earner for them here. And what they will already make from this tie probably sets them up for the next couple of years. If they recruit well they should potentially now be able to spend their way from tier 8 to tier 6.
They got 2k people interested enough to turn up at The Valley to support them and help them earn a replay and they are going to reward that support by basically telling two-thirds of them they are no longer wanted for the replay. It’s a bit like they are just ‘customers’ and we all know how that approach works out.

Well let them all in free to next home league game…. ! I bet that would swell the crowd to over 200…
I think quite a lot of the tickets were just being handed out in the end. Would be surprised if they were all paid tickets.
I personally know quite a few people who were in the away end who have no connection to CVPM or Charlton, but were just there with mates.
Most fans start off that way. Getting them to come back again and again is the trick. Admittedly, basically telling them thanks for your support in getting the replay but now bugger off probably isn’t going to make them fans.
On reflection Cray Valley Paper Mills have done the hard bit and earned the right to have the replay at Badgers. We will be obliged to accept whatever arrangements they put in place, the rules are the rules. We get 150 tickets (theoretically) and I suspect there will be no segregation as such. On the upside we will represent their record attendance. Their ‘Directors box’ is in the tiny stand on the half way where about 10 seats have a sheet of paper (appropriately) laminated and sellotaped onto them as the restricted ones. If anybody attends bent on making trouble or being difficult/violent it will be easy to do and difficult to stop. It will also be easy to gatecrash for the determined. I don’t see how they can make any adjustments to the stadium in a week, but maybe something will happen.

Plus £50k from the BBC
Absolutely but the point was about the value of the ticket receipts which unlike the TV fee are affected by the choice of venue.
I think quite a lot of the tickets were just being handed out in the end. Would be surprised if they were all paid tickets.
I personally know quite a few people who were in the away end who have no connection to CVPM or Charlton, but were just there with mates.
That would mean the clubs were paying people to attend, because comps are strictly controlled in the FA Cup, unlike the league. You’d have to pay the opposition and into the pool.
I doubt if people baulked at paying £10/£5 because they couldn’t get a comp.
This also means the cup crowds are accurate.
It was the highest first round crowd at The Valley since 1934, albeit we’ve only played at this stage 14 times since and not always at home. Obviously playing CVPM attracted a significant part of that, over and above the away end.

More Millwall infatuation….. In all the years I have supported Charlton and that’s over 60, I have never heard any Millwall fan express on any occasion, either in person or on a forum or anywhere, the slightest interest in Cray Valley PM. Yet reading the forum items on this game, you’d believe that it’s the second result they all look for every week.
People need to remember Cray Valley PM, is not just a non league team, it has a huge grassroots set up. From under 7's upwards, there was a huge push within the club for everybody and their familes to come along to the game. I know people who are Charlton season ticket holders who have kids playing there that went in the away end. Also the lower level Non League teams are very supportive of each other and fans from other teams would have gone as well, after this is done and dusted they will be back to their usual 150 each week.
I still think it ends up being played at their ground. We’ll see.

Got any beanpoles?
If anyone is in any doubt about the significance of Sunday and the degree of ignominy we now find ourselves in, just take that photograph in. That's not in any way intended to be disrespectful to CVPM as we are comparing apples and oranges.
Looking at the weather forecast for Eltham that week it's rain all week, and that's it...so sounds like The Quaggy might be a bit better, unless they have got decent drainage, which is unlikely... Still say why not play it at a neutral ground that could cope with what is likely to be a crap night...
