  • Regardless of its been asked before or not I think it is a valid question. If we are doomed for another nothing season and both players refuse to sign, should we cash in now?

Not when 6points from relegation with a recent record of one win in 10 against some of the poorest opposition in the division. What would we get £250-500k each absolute max. Not worth the risk to me.

On top of that, if these owners are really serious about building the club back to where it was as the real return for investors is as a PL club then being unable to retain your two best players is a pretty poor reality!
Yeah I get that. I would say though if that is the ambition does it not need to be done in a sustainable way? Furthermore, no disrespect to the two players but do they just look good because the dross around them. Would either of them be starting regularly in Bows or Powell’s promotion winning teams?

    Simple as that.

Na... they will just blame the owners!!
    As they should
If we were top 6, winning games, with a real chance of promotion and the club made them a good offer, they'd sign.

I wouldn't re-sign for us based on the current footballing prospects at CAFC

They must be crazy though- what with Appleton being the best coach in the world and all that...
Club is a mess.. It is no quick fix! this years of damage.. And if you are not going to allow time, it will never be fixed!

Super hero Varney isn't coming to the rescue.. suck it up, and support! We have little option..
But Charlie said it wasn't hard with better management to reduce the losses to £1.5m - £2m per year and establish ourselves as a top half Championship side.

If it's not hard how comes we're making it look quite difficult being a top half Division 3 side??...
Won't happen over night.. It takes time!
Andy Scott is on the record as saying we have a squad to compete for top 6.
    He said failure stops now
Methven said you only have to be better than previous owners to dramatically cut losses and establish ourselves in the top half of the Championship.

They were completely wrong or they aren't very good at their jobs.

Of course it would take time regardless of the manager etc

Right now though, we are lightyears away.
Scott hasn't got it right, everyone knows and the owners know that as well.. Let's see what happens over the next 2 windows, then make a real judgement!

As I said, it won't happen over night!

We are not looking to scrap the bottom of the barrel now.

    This 100%.

It has been mostly shocking since he has been in.
  • The true test of our recruitment is who we go for next, if JCH is a no go. If we go back in for someone like Humphry's great but if we end up with a last minute youngster on loan or an out of form player returning from injury who can be picked up a bit cheaper, the signs aren't good.

    More than 2 weeks

They took over the club on the 21st July

You would be no good if they were your specialist subject on Mastermind. You would be playing serious catch up on the general knowledge round

Peter Storrie said they'd set a budget with TS and the potential new owners

The potential new owners were FULLY aware of any transfer dealings the club were involved in and ney, I reckon, had approval over them all !

It is a valid question but at the time it was asked at Bromley Addicks the situation was different and my view was we should keep them for a promotion push.

Now, I tend to think that we could cash in we're not going up but we're also not safe from relegation so selling two of our best players might not be a great idea.

Remember New England Teamen and 1978 when we let Powell, Flan and Abrahams go around March and just avoided the drop.
  • NOT a rumour, more a comment .. isn't this the type of young player that WE should be trying to get on loan, based in the south now loaned to Lincoln ?

To be fair, the 21st July was two weeks before the season started!

    "Suck it up"

Wow, you really just told other fans who aren't happy to "suck it up"

    Unbelievable.
What other options do we have?

Suck it up and try to support the club, and see what happens or don't go and spend your hard earned cash.

Think last night they delivered a message, they know they haven't got it right, they have made mistake, they know it isn't an easy fix, they are trying to correct the wrongs, they have owners who are willing to invest money in the playing side, and non-playing side.

I am frustrated as much as anyone how poor this season has been, how we have left ourselves short, how things don't seem to be going to plan this window.. But need to give them a chance, personally,

I don't we will see the really benefits for another 18months - 2 years in my opinion, it is a project!

They done well by not letting Scott face questions.

There isn't a straight forward answer really, as it depends on where we are in the table, and who else we bring in. Back in December, promotion was still a realistic aspiration, and it's possible that one or both of Dobson and CBT might have resigned if we were a Championship club next season. Now there's no chance of that, but a small but genuine chance of relegation.

We're trying to bring in JCH who Posh are wanting to sell because his contract is running out, so it's a common decision in football post Bosman.

    FIVE WINDOWS?
We are really setting the bar low aren't we
Please stop saying Scott has had two windows already. Please!!!

window 1. He was working for sandgaard under a completely different brief. The owner wanted out and wanted to reduce costs. From sandgaards point of view, last January was a good window.

window 2. What percentage of the window had gone when the new owners took control? How many realistic targets had moved on by that stage?

window 3. This is the first full window Scott has had.

Summary. As this is his first full window and I'll judge him come February.

    Exactly this.
  • So the club are looking at better quality players.

If they approached me, I’d have reservations.
Sign now, Appleton/Scott sell it to you with the ‘5 year plan’, but you can see we are on a bad run of results. I don’t care what they state, no wins in January and Appleton might be gone (surely he would go then) and you are then risking yet another new Manager who you might not get on with.

The club is in a very difficult position to attract any permanent signings right now.
Will be easier in the summer once we know what league we are in and you have time to plan properly for early summer signings.

This is his 3rd window (The 2nd one not a full one as highlighted below)

The whole of January last year

From the 21st July when his group that he’s employed by took over the club. His last 4 signings shown to be panic stations and 2 of those already thrown back

And 11 days into this one now and very likely to still be charge by the end of it
If you want to count the first one, then do.. But when was Scott appointed, wasn't right at the end of December, so there would have been no plan, and was still working with Gallen, and Martin S.. So not as straight forward as you think.. Summer was the same as well.. This is first real run at it, on his own, making decision without people from the other side to go through..
