Our commentary team seem to have to been using new kit (as alluded to by Tel early in the match). It does beggar belief that you would not test this tech out BEFORE inconveniencing paying customers who are bringing in a few £1000 of revenue. The most galling thing is the lack of follow up comms apologising or offering recompense. It’s not a free service, it’s actually going rate for a stream (film, gig, theatre streaming as comparison).guinnessaddick said:
Why was there no problem with the Hull commentary?PragueAddick said:It certainly is the EFL’s responsibility. Everything from all the games goes through their central studio in Osterley. The big apology board is the exception to that, it was obviously knocked up on the hoof as it became clear the problems were hard to fix.
If you want compensation, ask the EFL for it, and while you are at it, ask them why we had TWO double aways in five games.2 -
When we couldn’t hear, somebody made sure we couldn’t see near side play as well.
It might sound revolutionary, but shouldn’t everybody involved test out the whole system the day before, the morning before or in the hours before?
It is times like yesterday I imagine idle people leaving things to the last minute whilst using the magic word ‘should’, as in ‘it should be all right’.
Change that to ‘it will be all right’.
Yesterday, when there actually was commentary in the second half it was depressing to hear defeatest Steve Brown going on about tiredness and fixture unfairness, when what I was watching the players the coaches and the manager not giving up and trying to find a way back…which they did.

If there wasn’t, I suppose its because they can feed it out to their web directly, as we would at home. All the comms problems I can recall on Charlton TV have been at away matches.guinnessaddick said:

I'm sure Charlton could do this but would the EFL pay to send cameras and the whole crew the day before every game. Maybe play a whole match just in case?jose said:When we couldn’t hear, somebody made sure we couldn’t see near side play as well.

You could do it in the hours before but what if it doesn't work. Just keep trying and warn people there's a problem.0 -
Any outside broadcast worth its salt would have resiliency built in (additional and alternative kit). There are many times this is proven to not be the case on Charlton TV.stevexreeve said:y

Different service apparently, that is what Greg said on comms.guinnessaddick said:

Now I could be wrong here, but I remember that reference from Tel, but I understood him to mean they were trying something to get round the problem that had become apparent when they arrived at the stadium. Several times he also said that these problems are "completely outside our control". If the problems were caused by some new kit they themselves brought along, he wouldn't say that. As far as I know Tel (and I've only met him once years ago but i took to him straight away) the word "completely" is code for "we've been fucked over by the EFL/Sky, again"BalladMan said:

Fair enough. My point remains though, it should not be Tel making the apology, but the club making it right.PragueAddick said:

Live coverage of last weekend's fixture against Hull City on CharltonTV was interrupted by a number of audio drop-outs. The club's production team have been working with a number of external companies to ensure Saturday's game against Swansea City isn't impacted. The club would like to apologise to those impacted last weekend, and will be in touch with them to follow up with regards to partial and full refunds depending on their package.

Has anyone managed to buy a pass for tomorrow’s game ? Not giving me the option from ‘Belgium’.1

Seem to remember SKY having all sorts of problems and drop outs a year ago when they started to improve their service! Don't know whether SKY is worth it's salt.BalladMan said:

"Salary comes from the word salt because the Romans used to pay their soldiers in salt". Or is that a completely made up load of bollocks?0 -
Got the email from the club, said to email them, got refunded £5.00 5-10 minutes later.4

What detail if any are you meant to reply with in the e mail?
What's the purpose of e mailing them.
They have the details so just make a refund.0 -
I don’t make up the rules , maybe a faux pas, on their part, maybe should have been a full refund, but I’m not going to get 2 wound up about it, I was pretty fuming at the time though, when the match was onCovered End said:What detail if any are you meant to reply with in the e mail?

i just gave them name and address, just hope they really have sorted out the issues they were having, all seemed a bit amateurish and unprofessional really.1 -

Having worked for ‘redemption schemes’ on behalf of major brands in the past, this additional amount of effort (mail us back with some details) will result in 50%+ (likely 75%) potential claims never being made, especially when it relates to a smallish sum of money.Mendonca In Asdas said:Got the email from the club, said that to email them, got refunded £5.00 5-10 minutes later. They could (and should) have just credited £10 to all the accounts that bought the stream in order to allow them to purchase an alternative. Even if the £5 was auto added to account, it would have been a positive gesture.1 -
£5 seems reasonable to me. Credit to the club on this.2
