Carlisle United vs Charlton AthleticSaturday 25th November 2023 - 3pm Kick-OffReferee: Leigh DoughtyIntroductionHas there ever been a team to win promotion from a Division in November?
Well it'll happen this Saturday when the Addicks trav- Wait... What do you mean they wont...? - We always secure promotion at Carlisle!! - Well that'll be an strange experience for the travelling faithful. Yet we return to League action though this Saturday for the first time in two weeks, with Charlton looking to build on the yearly result at Fratton Park... These next three games, whilst they shouldn't be taken lightly, should boost our Play-Off hopes!!

Our opponents this coming Saturday are of course newly promoted from League Two, their first back at this level since the 2013-14 season, and it was a promotion that really came out of no where... After all their previous campaigns in the fourth tier had them finishing in the Play-Offs just once (in 2017), with the rest either in mid-table or fighting relegation.
Paul Simpson back in his second spell as Carlisle Manager, got them promoted at his first attempt this time round. Unsurprising really, as it was his third successful season with the club... Simpson winning back to back promotion, during his first spell in 2005-06, taking the club from Conference > League Two in two years - This season was always going to be challenging as a result, and survival will no doubt be the aim come next April.
At present Carlisle sit in 22nd, with just three wins (two at home), and five draws - There will be a reunion with Centre-Back: Sam Lavelle, and has captained our opponents in recent weeks - Owen Moxon will be the obvious name to watch, survival will depend on keeping the creative Midfielder, who has a combined 28-goals and assists in these last two seasons.
Charlton Team NewsWhilst we've not been in League action for some time now, we have at least enjoyed some success in the Cups, with our progression confirmed in both the FA Cup and EFL Trophy in our last two competitive games - Its allowed the likes of Tayo Edun and Conor McGrandles to not just gain match fitness, but to show their worth in a Charlton shirt.
You'd expect to Edun lining up at Left-Back, giving balance back to our defence, whilst Conor will no doubt have to settle for another cameo - Maynard-Brewer | Hector | Thomas | Anderson, should each now be available after International Duty.

T.Watson - Hector - Jones - Edun
Dobson - L.Watson

T.Campbell - Leaburn - Blackett-Taylor

I can't see it being anything other than that team , Maybe Fraser for Luke Watson but I'd play Watson.
I know it's a cliché but these games are the ones we have to win we are to stand any chance of a play off place and i think we will.
2-0 to Charlton (May & Blackett Taylor)
I hope the weather holds up for our 800 travelling fans as it's forecast to be freezing up north on Saturday morning.

im dropping him at tube station 7.20 Saturday morning .. fuck that I’ll be asleep during the first half with my feet up .
great numbers (for us) going up there … enjoy 👏👏👏
Need to pick up back to back wins against Carlisle and Cheltenham on Tuesday to not allow that gap between us and 6th place to grow.

Leaburn
I’m not sure if this is the best idea or not, but May seems to score the same amount of goals wherever he is on the pitch so it might work.
I think McGrandles will start games soon but in a game like this where we should be dominant and have a lot of possession I think I’d rather have Watson and Fraser
They've both stated their qualities as a L1 midfielder, and haven't been shy to say they're probably one of the best in the league.
Alfie wouldn't, would he, so he doesn't have to put a hat-trick past his old team? :-)
Any of the three possible results would not surprise me .. BUT it is a long long way to go and have to come home pointless
Away win for us .. just
Plus what's with the trees??
(Oh, where's me Kenneth Williams gif?)
